April 2, 2017 at 2:22 pm #379894I need some help on my SLS (Reflection)
When answering the 4 questions I need to write in 1st person right?
Also, do i need to put references in the Word Document, for example what is communication or write everything by myself on my personal strengths and overcoming weaknesses?
Thank you!
April 4, 2017 at 10:30 am #380070Yes the SLS should be written in the first person.
Normally unless you are referring to a specific document/ piece of research there would be nothing to reference
It is an assessment of your learning and development experience of the challenges presented and how you built on your personal strengths and overcame weaknesses. Emphasis on assessment and evaluation i.e. it is not a description of what you did but rather it’s importance in your development skills.
April 6, 2017 at 8:15 pm #380481Thank you @trephena for the prompt reply.
For the submission of May 2017, the SLS need to be structured to answer the 4 questions right? Because i heard for a long essay for assessment and evaluation of my experiences.
Could you please clarify to me? Thank you!!
April 9, 2017 at 12:56 am #380664They have scrapped the essay idea. Answer the 4 questions
April 24, 2017 at 4:34 pm #383424Hi @trephena again I am doing my presentation slides and i need to ask you about referencing in the presentation.
I am doing topic 8, do i need to cross-references the graphs with the Excel?
Let;s say my SWOT analysis data are from different sources , do i need to write bullets points and then reference or just bullets points and I will be okay without referencing as it is referenced in my RAP? I don’t mean quoting someone words!
Thank you for your advices all along!
April 25, 2017 at 8:23 am #383609You do not need to reference anything in the slide presentation.
Every fact, opinion or the work of others in your RAP however must be referenced (as I make clear in the Open Tuition Ultimate Guide to Referencing your RAP ) Just sticking one reference at the end of a section is not adequate in the report
April 26, 2017 at 11:35 am #383958how long should be the power point presentation ? my mentor told that it should be around 8- 10 slides. also for SLS he told there is 5 question format. but i read the post here and you have mentioned its 4 question format. @trephena. I am confused :/
Please can you tell me whether is it important to carry out PORTER’s FIve forces analysis for main company ? i have done SWOT and PESTEL so far .April 27, 2017 at 7:05 am #384084The criteria for passing the presentation are that key information from your report findings should be effectively communicated in 15 minutes so there is no set number.
It depends also on your topic therefore whether 8-10 would be adequate. It certainly would NOT be for Topic 8! Because it is about principal points so don’t put in graphs for absolutely every ratio and above all do NOT cram more than 2 graphs per slide or wordy paragraphs of text or you could be failed for ‘information overload’. Also have a concluding slide.
Not sure what your mentor’s 5th question is as it has been 4 questions for years! (See the information pack). It is better to do 2 models well than 3 superficially and for T8 SWOT and PEST(LE) are best. Ensure you start Part 3 with the models and link the factors to the financial performance. The whole idea of the models is that they should guide the analysis e.g. they influence management decisions and the PEST factors also impact on direction and performance and the marker expects to see you making these connections
May 3, 2017 at 10:37 am #384684Hello trephena,
Regarding the SLS, since there are only 4 questions to be answered now, would i really need to show how i went through the rap, because i had chosen topic 8 for period 33 ,and because i failed to obtain the relevant data from the organisation i had intended to do on i had to change the topic to 17 as per my mentors guidance which was a good option to me. But the time was too little that i pushed it to May 17,
so do i have to mention this in my sls anywhere?May 3, 2017 at 11:13 am #384689The SLS is a statement about your learning and development and markers tend to like personal details like this. Also although it says what did you learn from the mentor, this also extends to meaning what you learned from the whole experience so you can say that you considered whether T8 was the appropriate topic for you and why it wasn’t and why you felt CG was a much better option which meant holding back to P34. Reflect on whether sometimes this implies that standing back from something and taking time may sometimes result in less rushed and potentially better decisions.
May 7, 2017 at 10:43 am #385168What you guys write here, I am a bit lost.. How should I determine to what extent objectives are met? I would appreciate any suggestions-Thanks
1. To what extent do you think you have achieved the RAP research objectives you set?

This is simple, have to meet the research objectives that you set? If not, what hurdles did you face? How did you overcome it? Maybe word limit was the problem, so you couldn’t analyse it in more depth to meet your objectives? How you tried to concise it?
Stuff around these things.
May 7, 2017 at 3:27 pm #385209Eshan, highly appreciate your guidelines. I will write something about obstacles encountered.
I struggle also with first question, what I learnt from meeting with mentor. The true is that meeting were not really educational because my virtualmentor become engaged only when speaking about extending mentoring package.
Any suggestions about first SLS question? thanks in advance

Write about communication skills, maybe you learnt about referencing which you didn’t know, stuff like that.
May 7, 2017 at 8:26 pm #385268Thanks a lot super women
May 7, 2017 at 10:41 pm #385281Q1 The idea is to look at what skills you lacked at the start as @Ehsan says.
For Q2 consider challenges, set backs and any specific issues and difficulties but maybe also bring in any ‘quick wins’ . So at the same time consider what areas were your particular strengths. It is a kind of personal SWOT (well the first two elements of a SWOT!). Maybe you are a whizz on Excel so doing the graphs was easy – that kind of thing
May 9, 2017 at 10:23 am #385478Hi everyone…
I can’t stop thanking you for all your help…!
Here i am again with 3 questions:))Q1. I am confused at the moment. In OBU RAP pack i read on page 58: ” Always start with a clear opening slide with the title of the presentation and
the student’s name and ACCA number to identify the presenter.”. Meanwhile in the checklist point# 2 it is stated theat there is a point that my name shouldn’t be appearing anywhere in the project… I guess info on page 58 is not correct?Q2. As well when i create files my name (without a surname) always is indicated as a creator’s name… should i worry about this as well?
Q3. As well – do you know, if i upload the project now, will i be able to re-upload it again by 17th of May, if i make any changes? I don’t want to leave the upload to last moment but i am sure till 17th i will still be trying to make it better))))
Thank you so much
May 9, 2017 at 7:36 pm #385530Hi @trephena ,
a quick question: I finished my presentation, do I need to include notes in slides (at the end of evey slide there is a ‘click to add notes’). If i don’t as i know my topic and how to present, is this necessary to include for the markers?
Thanks!
May 9, 2017 at 7:59 pm #385534Please, can someone tell me what should be included in question 3 of SLS. I was asked by my mentor to redo that part. Is it Ok if i post that particular answer in this thread so that u could share your opinions about it.

1) Don’t add your name as it helps in anonymous marking. Even if you write it, it won’t be a criminal offense lol.
2) Stop worrying on little immaterial stuff.
3) Hmm, uploaded means that you didn’t make payment and submit the project. If yes then yes you can re-upload it.

No need to write anything in notes.

Ehsan, thank you a lot!
About question 3 – i meant can i pay and load the project on the site, then work on it more , then delete the old variatn and upload the newest variant prior to 17th of May?At the moment i already have more or less satisfactory project and etc. But i still want to work on it and in case smth will go wrong with the technical side of upload of the project i want to be sure that there is at least not the latest, but some variant…

No you can’t re-submit. Finalise your project 2 days before the deadline and submit 2 days before.
