Hi, I am currently studying with Kaplan and have just passed my FA exam with a good result. I am now studying for the MA exam and although I feel the Kaplan materials are very useful, it takes me so long to get through them.

Money isn’t the issue as my employer is covering the cost of my studies, however I have read that Open Tuition is much more efficient for passing the exam. I am looking to study smarter rather than harder, so can anyone who has studied using both suggest if I should switch from Kaplan lectures/study text to Open Tuition lectures/notes whilst still using the Kaplan study text?

I am looking to pass the exams as quickly as possible, and I’m just not on track at the rate I’m going to just get through the Kaplan materials.

    Thanks for any advice.

I would certainly recommend the lectures and notes on OpenTuition. The lecturers explain things well and lean towards helping with points to pass the exams (which is of course what we’re trying to do). It’s certainly quicker than reading loads of information in study texts.

I’ve used BPP and Kaplan, and both are good, but very comprehensive. So I would suggest using OpenTuition to get through the syllabus, while using the Kaplan study text to gain more depth into a topic that you might feel you need more understanding.

Also, very importantly, a BPP or Kaplan practice and revision kit is still strongly recommended, even if you’re using OT. It’ll help you grasp the standard of the exam. The lecturers themselves recommend this as well.

All the best on your ACCA journey!

Why not look at OpenTuition’s MA material, listen to a lecture and follow the topic in the course notes

Ashlan’s advice is important too – get a revision kit and practice exam standard questions

I agree with Ashlan. I passed the MA exam without the use of any study textbooks. Just make sure you practice both exam kits from Kaplan and BPP after watching the lectures and reading the notes.

The main difference for me is Open Tuition teaches you what you need to know to pass, the other learning providers teach you everything. So it really depends if you want to get concise information which will help you to get through the exams quickly or all of the information which will require a lot more work but you will likely get a higher mark (not that marks really matter when it’s simply pass fail).
