    Dear all,

I passed my F1 exam last week first time by self studying and I want to share my experience with you hoping that this would help you in some way.

A big thank you goes out to Opentuition for the free excellent material and lectures provided.

So here is my simple story.

I bought Kaplan Study Text and the Revision kit and read all the chapters to gain knowledge and attempted all the TYUs and never hesitated to make short notes.
Then it was time for me to test my knowledge and level using the revision kit.

I marked all the questions which I could not attempt first time and did them again and again to grab the method and revisited the difficult chapters for better understanding.

While doing the revision kit I was in touch with my short notes which helped me in answering all the theory questions successfully.

Self studying is hard as it requires self motivation and determination cause you are simply on your own. So choose a good tuition provider if you feel that is your call.

Remember to time the questions when attempting them. I trained myself to answer each easy theory question within 30 seconds,1 minute for not so difficult questions and remaining time for the most difficult questions.

When you are in the exam attempt all the easy questions first and flag the ones you can not attempt within 1 minute as there can be/are many questions with details and those questions will need the rest of the time left.

So..Good Luck!..I hope it was helpful in some small way.

    Hi Deepthie,

    Good job, well done.

Did you use only the Kaplan practice kit? I am getting on with it fine, but I find that the Questions are very long winded and it takes aaaages sometimes to answer some of them. Did you find the exam questions the same in length and difficulty as the Kaplan kit?

    2 weeks to go 🙂

    Hi,

Yes I only used the Kaplan practice kit and the questions in the real exam were easier than that. So it was a plus point. But I had around 7-10 tough questions which were lengthy just like in Kaplan Practice kit.

    Regards,
    Deepthie

Well, I’ve just got my provisional pass today. Over the moon.

I’ve studied from the BPP book and I went through both the Kaplan and PBB exam kit twice. I also went through the Acorn practice kit once. The videos on this site really helped. I found them when I just couldn’t get the pensions stuff , but Chris explained it so well that actually I hoped to get a question in the exam. Huge thanks to Opentuition and huge thanks to Chris who really explains stuff very well.

However – even though I actually enjoyed the subject I really struggled on the exam. And this is not because I wasn’t confident in my knowledge. I struggled because 60 question in 90 mins just doesn’t suit me. I like thinking questions over but this exam style doesn’t allow any thinking time. I was actually so nervous that I spent ages figuring out years/months in non-current asset questions, something that never happened when I studied or in real life. I went through a lot of past exam questions and the old exam style suits me much better.

Anyways, it’s over now, I will give it a week and I will get on with P1.

    Thanks again Opentuition

Yes im using their module for P1 and i have to say they are really good.
You can use study mode where you go through the questions and the answer comes up right away or you can choose exam mode.
Well worth the price and each module kit is valid for 180 days after purchase.

I completely agree with the comment 4 above this one. Open tuition helped tremendously with my passing of F1. Very well presented lectures and concise where it needed to be.

I would make a comment on the time element of the exam. First time round, I felt I had the required knowledge to pass, however I simply took too long in answering and subsequently failed through not finishing.

I therefore aimed to complete each question in under 1 minute throughout all practice questions / mock exams. On exam day, it felt like I was rushing, however this approach did give me a spare 10 minutes at the end which I could double check a few of the ‘flagged’ questions. I think that a target of a minute worked well, as for this exam you don’t have time re-think your answers.
