Hi all
I am Level 4 AAT qualified and currently half way through my ACCA studies. I have been offered a new job role in Finance which allows me to do self-employed work on the side (My previous employment didn’t allow this).
Now I am wondering what license do I need to have to be able to provide tasks such as;
-SA100 & CT600 Preparation
-Annual Accounts Preparation
-VAT Returns
-PayrollDo I have to sign up with AAT and take out their Accountants Membership? Or am I able to provide all of the above with ACCA student membership?
I am aware that I need to have PII and AML.
Thank you for your help.
July 7, 2020 at 10:27 am #576225As AAT promotes the sort of services you are looking to offer https://www.aat.org.uk/businesses-employers/find-accountant-bookkeeper you might want to consider licensed membership https://www.aat.org.uk/membership
However, there is no legal requirement for any of these services to be provided by a qualified accountant. I would say it depends entirely on whether your aim is to establish your own business or just do occasional work. In either case you would get better advice contacting the member services of AAT, for example.
July 7, 2020 at 10:30 am #576226This depends on do you want to apply ACCA practice certificate or AAT licence. If you want to apply ACCA practice certificate, you need to be fully qualified as ACCA, then have post 3 years management experience and pass the checks.
If you want to apply AAT licence, you can do the same above too, you need to be fully AAT qualified, MAAT, and other bits.

July 7, 2020 at 12:09 pm #576233Thank you Kim & Neggumz
At the moment, I will be providing bookkeeping & CT600 & SA100 filling services for 1 client and that’s it. Realistically looking, I can probably take on maximum of 5 clients who are small sole traders or limited companies as I will be undertaking Management role in my new workplace.
Hence I am not sure whether AAT licensed membership justifies itself costs for the amount of work I will be carrying out.
