I have a friend who successfully submitted RAP a few years back under the previous topic 8. He also failed 2 times in that. My question is can I see his RAP and ask him about why he failed and where he went wrong without copying anything or is it too plagiarism. I understand OBU won’t know if I see it but my conscience doesn’t allow me to use unfair methods. I just want to gain an idea of what he submitted and why he failed and the type of format that he used. My topic will be different since they changed the topics recently. Please advice on this.

Seeing someone else’s RAP is NOT plagiarism but copying it would be.

I think you are taking a very sensible approach and if you only intend to gain an idea of requirements and how to avoid a fail then provided he is in agreement, there is no ethical issue here. You would not really be gaining any more advantage than another student might gain say, by having a better mentor than another student or having a background in a particular industry relevant to their topic or having done a degree already – all of which are within the rules.

Extracting passages from another’s work and revamping it, using their Excel spreadsheet or presentation slides as templates would constitute cheating as essentially you would be submitting work that was not all your own.

PS please be aware that the suggested layout has subtly changed recently so ensure you consult the June 2021 Information Pack for help on layout
