I just did in a recent post – a car was the subject of the contract. The contracted purchaser breached the contract. The seller sued for breach and also sold the car 3 weeks later for a profit figure that exceeded the contracted profit by 130 pounds
Clearly the breacher was in the wrong and should not have broken the contractual agreement
But the innocent party had not really suffered a loss
So the Court found in favour of the car seller and awarded nominal damages of 1 pound
I believe that Marilyn Monroe also sued a newspaper that referred to her as an empty-headed blond bimbo. She won her case … the newspaper should not have referred to her as such … and the Court awarded her $1 for the damage that she had suffered
OK?
