I attempted a question in Kaplan. I was unable to understand two parts.
Every 10th person chosen randomly from each ward in a hospital. This is Stratified Sampling but how?
A sample, which is as representative as possible of the composition of the staff in terms of gender, age and department, is taken by stopping appropriate staff in the corridors and canteen.
Is this Quota sampling or Stratified sampling? Can you explain professor?
December 14, 2021 at 7:25 am #644213The first is stratified sampling because they are splitting the population into groups (each ward is effectively a group) and then selecting randomly from within each group.
The second is quota sampling because people are stopped as they appear until we have the required % of the total sample from each of the gender, age, and department.
December 14, 2021 at 9:53 am #644228Professor in stratified sampling we choose sample proportional to size of group to that population. Here, we have no proportional sample?
December 14, 2021 at 3:40 pm #644246It is stratified because the population has been split into groups – it is just that the groups here are the separate wards.

What is difference between in Quota sampling and Stratified Sampling?
I am unable to understand these two only.December 16, 2021 at 7:05 am #644381They are covered in Chapter 2 of our free lecture notes and the lectures on that chapter.
