random sample has the problem that every item should be numbered to select on random basis.
My question is
in stratified sample we split the population into groups and select on random basis from groups.Does this mean the item in each group also have to be numbered to select on random from each group
similarly in multistage sample do we also have to number the items in each blocks to select randomly items from each block
and in cluster sampling we do select randomly the offices first, so in that case also we have to number it or not.
when the word random comes does it means its done through numbering
Random does not mean that we have to always physically number each item.
For it to be random it means that each item has to have an equal chance of being selected. In an accounting situation then the items are likely to already be numbered and so we can use those numbers.
Otherwise what matters is that we know how many items there are in total.
