In case the question simply asks for “sales volume variance”, do we need to calculate “sale price volume variance” or “sales margin volume variance“??

The margin variance (either using standard profit or standard contribution depending on whether it is absorption costing or marginal costing). I do explain this in my free lectures on variance analysis.
