Can anyone help me please?
I have been asked what are the reasons for and against carrying non-current assets at their revalued amounts. I have researched and found benefits for revaluation but can’t seem to find reasons against this?
Thanks any help much appreciated!
Tina
one reason for against i can think of is that revalued amounts are relevant but not that reliable in contrast to histrocial amount which is reliable but not that relevant.
Maybe because any revaluation surplus is a “profit” which is not realised. I wonder how many companies in the western world were carrying property at values in excess of cost – ie at revalued amount – and have now had to reconsider these values in the light of falling property prices
Thanks shheri & MikeLittle, that makes sense and has given me a start.
