Good day, Sir.
May I know what is program control in inventory system.
Also, the examples for program control?
Can you please provide some context – it is unclear what you are asking.
It is from past year of Dec 2012 Q1 (c).
Using CAAT for the audit procedures of the inventory cycle and year-end inventory balance and explain advantages.
Answer for advantages of using CAATs-
CAATs can test program controls within the inventory system and general IT controls, such as passwords.
What are the examples can be given for program control in the inventory system?
Program control is just another term for an automated control (as opposed to manual control) – see in Chapter 14 these include sequence checks (so that could be of GRNs or GDNs) and edit checks. For inventory, edit checks might be that quantities of goods received can only be whole (integer) numbers and not negative. The system might report automatically, by exception, inventory items that have negative quantities on hand (since this is clearly impossible and must be investigated).
Associated with “passwords” there should also be user rights – so sales personnel who need to look up quantities available have “read only” rights and cannot change quantities.
