    hi

56hours of unskilled workers will be required for the upholstery and flooring work.Unskilled workers are currently paid $420 per week. Each unskilled employee has enough work allocated to them for the next three weeks to earn $372 per week. The work to be done by the unskilled labour on bow(refurbishment of yacht) must be completed withing 1st week of the project starting and overtime is paid at time and half. What is the relevant cost and why..?

Please do not simply type out test questions and expect me to provide an answer. You must have an answer in the same book in which you found the question (I assume obviously that you are practicing using a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers) and so ask about whatever it Oisin the answer that you are not clear about and then I will explain.

The answer for that part is the unskilled workers are guaranteed work for $420/$12=35hrs.
They are currently working $372/12=31hrs There are 5 workers therefore 20hrs of week will have no cost,Leaving balance 36hrs(56-20) to be paid for a time and half

My doubt is how those 20hrs will have no cost.I did not understood that point.

You did not type out the whole question in your first posting (for instance you did not say that there were five workers or that they are paid $12 per hour!!).

However, since the question says that they are paid $420 per week, then presumably they are being paid that whether or not they are working. Therefore having them work during these 20 hours not being worked will not have any extra cost.

(However the question is very badly worded. If it was in the BPP or Kaplan Kit then I am surprised 🙂 )

And in the above question even though we require 56 hours of unskilled labour for the concerned work we pay for 36hours only i.e total time less idle time so that means 20hours is inclusive of 56hours and the relevant cost is the amount for which they worked and paid Am i right sir.?

Idle time is time that they are currently being paid for but time when they are not actually working.

Yes sir that means since 20hours of unskilled labours are idle i.e. we are paying even though they are not working is irrelevant , but we since require 56 hrs of labour for the work anyways we pay for balance 36hrs at overtime to complete the concerned work Am i right sir.?
