I actually had a further question. I realised after my above comment that simply working on a provision probably doesn’t count as unverifiable CPD since working on provisions themselves is something I should be familiar with from my studies already. So I’m thinking communicating with other teams who have to provide non FR info to my calculation might count instead, what do you think?
And I was also wondering if I have to fill in the “why did you choose this” and “what did you learn” for the unverifiable? And lastly, if I have a monthly meeting with other teams (FP&A or completely non-financial parts of the business or whoever), can I put in the dates for that as 01/01-31/12 and claim it as roughly 12 units?
Sorry for all the questions, I feel like it’s harder to find info about unverifiable than verifiable so I’m a bit lost!
December 7, 2023 at 7:22 am #696293I suggest take a moment to look at what is CPD …
“It’s the learning and development that you’ll do throughout your membership …
CPD will provide you with the skills that you need to perform your day-to-day job, as well as enhance your employability for the future.” https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/member/cpd/your-guide-to-cpd.htmlSo the key words are “learning”, “development”, “skills” so generally, the doing of the day-job does not provide CPD. Spending your own time to read a related article or research a related topic would be unverifiable CPD.
You could claim for monthly training and development meetings, but I don’t think monthly brieifing meetings would be CPD.
I don’t know how many units you are looking, for, but here’s an idea (this is what I do every December):
Go https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/member/cpd-landing.html
Select “I’m looking for online CPD” from the top frame
Select “AB article” from the Type drop-down menu
Narrow the choice down by any topic you’re interested in
For those starred with “1 CPD unit” you can claim verifiable CPD for answering the MCQs correctly – and download a certificate to save as evidence
You can claim unverifiable CPD (use your judgement – 0.5 or 1 unit depending on how long it takes you to digest it).December 7, 2023 at 7:29 am #696294… you can SAVE the article as evidence … and it doesn’t matter if what you choose isn’t directly relevant to your current job. Also, the comments you can add to the record – these don’t have to be essays (!) – ethics topics are pretty much always relevant – and anything “digital” or “sustainable” is looking to the future, etc.
And don’t be afraid to think outside the box … For many years I included a proportion of the hours I spent on a foreign language course … it didn’t matter that it had nothing to do with “accounting” – I found it very relevant to communication skills, cultural awareness and “softer” skills.
