could you please explain to me what this question is asking
Question 150 – BPP revision kit 2017/2018“Describe the substantive audit procedures you should perform to confirm the assertions of completeness, occurrence and cut-off for purchases in the financial statements of Westra co. For each procedure, explain the purpose of that procedure. ”
I’m confused by the wording, “substantive audit procedures”, does this just mean audit procedures.
Audit procedures fall into two main categories:
1 Tests of control
2 Substantive tests.You can only describe 1 if the question describes the controls present. Category 2 ‘attacks’ figures in the FS directly and relates to testing the relevant assertions. So, for completeness of invoicing customers, could include tracing from orders and despatch notes to invoices and postings in the ledger.
