Can I attempt the optional exams without first clearing or entering for the compulsory exams?

Yes, you can.P1-P7 can be taken in any order you prefer subject to timetable and completion of any remaining F papers.

Remember some of the exams are changing next year. There’s also little benefit to doing the options before the mandatory P papers. Some of the tuition providers assume P1-3 have been done before P5 for example.

One of the few ways doing an option paper before any of the essentials makes sense is if you work in tax and would do really well in P6 as a result. You might find tax is your best subject and opt to do it first. Or maybe you really like the look of P4 (despite it being arguably the hardest subject).

Doing P5 before P3 and doing P7 before P2 would be insane. There is no justification for doing p5 before p3. P7 requires you to know the accounting standard too so unless you have lots of experience in work applying accounting standards and you also work in audit at the same time only then there may be a reason to try P7 before P2. Otherwise you’re crazy to do P7 before P2.

P4 links to P1 and 2 as shown in the below link.

For any P paper you should be looking at the ACCA website and the paper relationships.

When the syllabus was designed, p1-3 were meant to be done first. Whilst they removed this restriction they didn’t make significant changes to the papers so you should have a good reason to do them out of order.
