Sir, I tried the question after the lecture.
And the first question was,
The first unit took 18 hour and second took 10 hour , Calculate the learning rate? (To the nearest %)
Options
28%
18%
56%
78%And the answer was this,
The average time per unit for 2 units = (18 + 10) / 2 = 14 hours
Therefore the learning rate = 14/18 = 0.78 (or 78%)But I did this question as,
10/18= 0.5555
?0.5555 (r2- doubling)
And got the answer as 0.74 or 74%So I can choose option 78%
Is the method I did correct?
And what if in exam the options are like 72%, 74%, 76%, 78%.
I’m confused.December 15, 2020 at 8:53 am #600051Your method is wrong and the correct answer is exactly 78% !!
You are wrong for two reasons. Firstly it is the average time per unit that falls with learning (not the time for each unit). Secondly there is only doubling one time and therefore the learning rate is not the square root.
I do suggest that you watch the lecture again because I do work through a very similar example.
December 15, 2020 at 9:16 am #600055Yeah Sir. I did my method because I found this more convenient. And also got the correct answer in the question in the lecture. That’s why did it the same way for the question practise.
But hereon I will do the same method as taught.
Thank you so much for the simple and understandable explanation.December 15, 2020 at 3:02 pm #600071You are welcome 🙂
