    Hello
I came across a question in the CIMA aptitude kit. The question says “80% of the purchasers preferred the new features on the new model to those of the previous model” Is it a qualitative or a quantitative research information?

    Thanks.

Quantitative research gathers data in numerical form which can be put into categories, or ranked, or measured.

Qualitative data is typically descriptive data. Obviously, to be useful, much qualitative data has to be turned into quantitative-type data so that it can be summarised.

So, the result that 80% of purchasers preferred the new features is quantitative. Qualitative data would be used to try to find out why that was so.

    Hello
Thanks for the answer. I also felt that it should be quantitative research but the correct answer given by the system was qualitative research. Which one should I go with?

    Thanks.

I suppose you need to go with CIMA’s view, but I have my doubts as to whether or not it’s right.
