I am a beginner of P2. I just finished F7 in this June sitting. I understand that for P2, question 4, it’s usually on current issues; however, I don’t find this chapter in my study text. What are current issues? Is there any website or anything that gives us knowledge on current issues?
Is current issues question harder than q2 or q3 option?
How do I do well in current issue questions? Are they just repetitive in style and content, from past exams? I heard that the mixed standard question of question 3 is usually very unpredictable and is always a “fresh” scenario. So will current issues be better?
June 18, 2014 at 10:28 am #176962Oh Gabriel! How can I possibly answer this? Current issues is ….. well, current issues! At the front of a reputable study text, there is often a section 5, 6 or 7 pages long dealing with the issues that were current at the date the author finished the text – but that could be 18 months – 2 years ago!
There is a website that you should look at regularly (www.iasplus.com) that is very good for keeping up to date and there’s also http://www.accountancyage.com for a summary of matters that are currently hitting the headlines (but that’s more a source for P1 and P7)
Is question 4 harder that question 2 and / or 3? Did you ever watch the television programme “Who wants to be a millionaire?” That annoying smug self-centred anchorman (well, I didn’t like him) would say “Remember, folks, the questions are only easy if you know the answers”
Well, the same applies to P2 questions 2, 3 and 4 (and 1). In fact, it applies to all the P level questions in all the papers. Let’s extend that even further! It applies to ALL exam questions for whichever discipline you may be studying be it medicine, law, accounting, social sciences, sports sciences of even needlework with embroidery.
Ask yourself this – if any one question were regularly harder than the other 2 option choices, why would anyone ever do the hard question?
No, it’s neither harder nor easier.
No, they are not repetitive in content (maybe in style they are a bit similar)
Question 2 AND 3 tend to bring in multiple standards including current developments potentially affecting those standards.
I think the simple message that I’m trying to get across here is that P2 is one steep step up from F7 …. to the extent that you’ll look back and say to yourself “How did I ever struggle with F7?”
“So will current issues be better?” – maybe, maybe not! I wouldn’t put money on it!
