    Hi

Can I get some help with the post acqn of Square please?

I have done the na of S table as below:

    @ acqn. @y/e. post
    SC. 9000. 9000. –
    RE. 19000. 8000. 11000
    Fv uplift 3000. 3000. –
    Fv depn. (600). (600)
    Def tax. (1000). (1000). –
    30000. 18400. 11600

The question is asking for the equity and NCI – the answer has post acqn as 7400??

    Many thanks

First things first – I cannot see in the printed solutions 4 separate answers to the four parts of this question!

Secondly, I assume that you didn’t realise that you had made a major error in your typing? On the retained earnings line, you should have typed 19,000, 27,000 and 8,000

In direct answer to your question, the post acquisition profits are given to you ($8,000) but there’s a “extra depreciation” amount of $600 to deduct from that figure leaving you with $7,400

Are you ok from here on?

Oh so for the RE @ y/e I should have added the £19000 from 1/10/13 and the £8000 from 30/9/14?

Why on earth would you not do that? The $19,000 had been achieved and retained since the company started in business 3,742 years ago. This year they made another $8,000. To carry forward there must be $27,000 less the “extra depreciation”

    OK?
