    A couple bought a house on 1st october 1994

    occupied as main residence upto 31 march 1998 (43 months EXEMPT)

    un occupied from 1 april 1998 to 31 december 2001 (for work elsewhere in uk) (45 months EXEMPT)

    occupied again from 1 december 2002 until 31 december 2008 (as main residence) (84 months EXEMPT)

    unoccupied until 30 september 2014 when it was sold

    now in answers last 36 months are not exempt WHY ???

    only its written FINAL 18 months exempt HOW ???

    From my understanding (and I may be wrong) the amount of months that are exempt with this calculation change from year to year. For the purpose of our exam I believe its only the last 18months that are exempt.

    in tax year 2013/2014 there were last 36 months before sale exempted. this changed in 2014/2015 to only 18 months exempted. do you use old book? be aware, that in June 2015 exam date tax year 2014/2015 tax rules will be examined
