Hi there
I went through the lecture videos just now
I still don’t seem to understand the difference between a positive and negative form in assurance report
It both sounds almost exactly the same
Compare the following (paraphrased):
1. “Based on our work, nothing has come to our attention that causes us to
believe that [matter described], is not materially incorrect …”
and
2. “Based on our work, in our opinion [matter described], is materially correct …”
Which is the “stronger”? 1 is saying that nothing has been found contrary to the assertion about the matter described – this is referred to as “negative assurance”. 2 is saying in the affirmative – i.e. positively that a matter is correct.
Because 2 is stronger – it makes sense that this should require more work – whereas 1 will require less – i.e. limited – work in comparison.
ohh okay I understood
Thank you very much for helping me
You’re very welcome!
