Hey everybody!!
I need your valuable advice.I failed my last paper in ACCA for the third time i.e P5-38%.I have no record of failing exams though. This time around at least I was hoping to succeed in passing.I am thinking that there might be a problem with this new examiner. So please advice me if I had to swap also other optional papers.BTW I have done with P7.Available options are P4 & P6.
I would like to say congrats for those who managed to pass and for those who became affiliates!
Your prompt responses are highly appreciated especially those who has experiences of managing recurrent failures.
Thank you in advance

I failed this exam with 36%. After checking the answer I think it is fair for me to fail because I did completely wrong for the 1st question.

I definitely think there is a problem with this examiner and the syllabus is changing for June 2011 sitting so in my opinion it is going to be even harder to pass now.
lehoangyen – Q1 was a ridiculous question and even in the Student Accountant Magazine for ACCA which was issued yesterday this was even addressed as being an issue with the Markers!! Surely you would have thought that this would have been taken into consideration and marks awarded accordingly based on the number of people who couldnt obtain a pass mark on that question.
I still gave Q1 a good go and I picked up on about 3/4 of what the examiner had put and yet I still failed this exam – SERIOUS PROBLEM!!!!!February 24, 2011 at 11:40 am #78544It was a fair exam though trick to pass, unfortunately I got a clear fail (46%).
February 24, 2011 at 11:46 am #78545Q1 is 31 marks, how did you do on the others? Most people except the Exam Review Board agreed that the question was surprising. Don’t be mad – just take it easy and convince or better still, assume you failed and then try to see where you think you might have scored low. If you keep on with this, you may not see what you ought to. Also check the marking scheme. I’ve felt like this before but the moment you begin to align with the insinuations of ‘less intelligent markers’ or ACCA sourcing revenue via exams, you would keep on falling where you ought to stand upright!
The first thing that came to mind when I opened my question booklet was “OMG – I’ve failed!” I tried to gain maximum marks in the last question which was my simplest and moved back to Q3, Q2 and whatever I could write in Q1. When I saw the answers, I was so scared because even though I wrote sensible things, the manner the examiner gave his answers were quite different and I do know ACCA gives credit for candidates’ ideas. Take it easy, let the rage subside.February 24, 2011 at 11:48 am #78546AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

The problem is the examiners model answer for Question 1.
This question was worth 31 marks or 31% of the entire paper and his model answer covers this in just over a page of text!! So if you didnt put exactly what he had put then pretty much that is 31% of your marks wasted.
It proves that the question was written wrong in the first place if the examiner himself could only come up with brief answers as opposed to a number of different possible answers like in previous sittings.
I feel this should be addressed as in a discursive exam like this there are always more than one correct answer!! Obviously not the case this time.February 24, 2011 at 11:55 am #78547AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Rage not subsiding aaaaagggghhhhhhhhhh
February 24, 2011 at 12:08 pm #78548Sorry. I feel your pain – I would have attributed my failure to that particular question too especially as I was not sure if the little I wrote would make sense to the examiner. I agree it’s quite unfair and it has been suggested that when next there’s a change in examiner, series of questions must be provided. However the advantage you have now is that it’s likely the exam would continue with this style going by what the board considers ‘professional level’. It assumes candidates as management consultants. I used some P3 concepts like change management in Q2b ABC so I would not erase know how of P3 in the next diet. I really wish you good luck so those guys can let you have your life back – lol!

Hi Chosen
I have asked for a review although not convinced it will do me any good!! My answer to Q1 was better than the examiners – ha ha!! Maybe I should have written the exam.
I also applied P3 to it and got 72% in P3 last sitting!! In fact I really want the examiner to look at my script and mark it personally as he will see how blumming similar it is to his “model” answer – maybe I will write him a letter personally 🙂
Well done on completing your exams – your Christmas will be yours again this year and not cut short by ACCA!! Well done 🙂February 24, 2011 at 12:34 pm #78550AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

wacko2408 I deleted my earlier comments about how I passed this exam because you were so condescending. I worked incredibly hard and it paid off, I can’t help thinking that instead of blaming the examiner and paper for your failure you should take responsibilty for your results but I suspect given your postings that is unlikely to happen.

I have deleted mine too – sorry if it offended!!
February 24, 2011 at 1:10 pm #78553@ lollyb did you know your comment will help others. Before becoming an affiliate, I took all relevant tips I could from successful candidates. Everyone has different formulae- let yours be part of them. At the risk of sounding immodest, I would have written that he was overconfident but what he has exhibited is a normal occurence when one is highly disappointed that their expectations were not met.

Chosen – he is a she 🙂
I was confident as I have checked my answers against what the examiner put and as I have said before after sitting so many exams you get a feel for what went well and what could have gone better. Yes I am disappointed of course and I wasnt having a go at lollyb but if people want to be touchy!!

I passed with 50 first attempt . For those looking for reviews, I have had 2 reviews done in the past and in my opinion it was a waste of my money. I was told then that ACCA does not remark. I had failed the papers with 49.
