Hi guys, I received the results and I failed my OBU because of my Presentation slides.

The marker’s feedback is as follows:

    ” Communication skills – Fail

The presentation does not summarise the findings, analysis and conclusions of the research report. The financial analysis must provide some explanation of the trends (analysis) and commentary on the benchmarking undertaken. You have merely stated the figures, Please provide analysis and benchmarking for all ratios included. Your conclusions also need attention as currently they do not provide the reasoning or commentary on the drivers behind the exceptional performance.”

In a way the feedback is true as my presentation only stated figures for the ratio analysis but that was because if i started explaining the details behind my presentation, the slides would be very heavy and contain a lot of figures making it longer than 15 slides.

I am asking if there is a way I can ask for an Academic Appeal as it is the only criteria I failed and if you can suggest possible arguments I can make i would appreciate it. I sent an email to acca@brookes.ac.uk asking for the procedure but i have not received any answer yet.

Kindly if anyone can help out I’d appreciate it

I understood the last argument about ambiguity, thanks. But the first one is tough.
So sir, I have to point out the fact that the assessment of the Presentations did not take account of the verbal content when I was presenting in front of my mentor. Like in person I talked about these things and the purpose of the slide’s content was to assist me in presenting the data that was already included in my Research Report ?

Just last question, Should I mention all my arguments in the e-mail then send to acca@brookes.ac.uk or is there somewhere else I should fill out ? Like a form or an Academic appeal procedure ?

    Your guidance would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

Hello sir, I jus got back the response,

” I understand that you are unhappy with your RAP result. Please be assured that this has been thoroughly considered by your marker and has been verified by the University’s moderation process, and I have also reviewed the work on your request. I find that the feedback was appropriate, and designed to assist you to re-submit successfully.

You have used 15 slides. I would advise that you use more slides, as then you would be able to place a graph on each slide, and then could add in some comments/analysis on the reason for results. The slides should concentrate mainly on your findings, so slides 5, 6 and 9 are unneccessary.

It seems you may be disagreeing with academic judgement. You are entitled to submit an Academic Appeal, but please note that in order to do this you would need to demonstrate suitable grounds. I have attached the regulations so you can see the grounds under which you could appeal. In order to submit an appeal you would need to show that there had been an error or irregularity with the assessment, the assessment had been affected by bias (from the marker) or that there had been a breach of regulations. You must also provide evidence. So far you have not raised any of these issues and solely disagreeing with academic judgement is not a valid ground ”

I just don’t know what is wrong with them. They did not consider my arguments on the Audio elements of a Presentation and they are just replying like this
