What’s the difference between performance measurement and performance management?
May 17, 2019 at 8:51 am #516235The whole ‘subject’ is performance management: how do you improve the performance of the organisation. However, what is meant by ‘performance’ and for this you really have to know the purpose of the organisation ie its mission. For example, making profits will be the purpose of many organisations but not the purpose of a charity, for example.
Organisations then have to set up measures of desirable performance which provide employees with targets and which allow management to track performance, usually comparing actual performance to budgets or objectives. This is the performance measurement part of the exercise.
You cannot judge or manage performance without measuring it.
