performance materiality

Hi, can you explain what is exactly performance materiality? and is it always lower than the preliminary estimation of materiality?

I’m pretty sure this is covered in notes/lectures. It has to be less than overall materiality so errors of lesser amounts are identified which could in aggregate be material.
