Hi there, I was doing a MTQ question on the ACCA main site. Here is the data for the question concerned.

    Nicholson Co
Operating data for the year ended 30 November 20X0
    Sales revenue
    $480 million
    Sales attributable to new products
    $8 million
    Average capital employed
    $192 million
    Profit before interest and tax
    $48 million
    Average numbers of customers
    1,960,000
Average number of telephones returned for repair each day
    10,000
    Number of bill queries
    12,000
    Number of customer complaints
    21,600
    Number of customers lost
    117,600
Average number of telephones unrepaired at the end of each day
    804

One of the Questions is: Average wait for a telephone repair.

The answer given by the paper’s answer page is 29-30 days. I cannot for the life of me work this out. There doesn’t seem to be any way to make it.

    Thanks.

    Paul

10,000 telephones are return each day for repair, and 804 remain unrepaired at the end of each day. Assuming 365 days in a year, it means the average wait is 804/10,000 x 365 = 29.3 days.

Holy Moly, I did that calculation and didn’t get that answer. I must have been pretty tired and mis-entered the number of zeroes which ended up confusing me, so I started doing other calculations. Feeling stupid now 😛

    Thanks very much,

    Paul
