3c) Recommend the examination procedures which should be used in auditing the performance information of Moosewood Hospital
When answering the above June 2017 question on PI, I answered my procedures in bullet points where as the ACCA answers are in-depth paragraphs.
What is the correct way to answer these. Will a bullet point answer explained adequately suffice for examiner?
May 30, 2019 at 8:00 am #517893Bullet point does not mean “note form”. You could easily put a bullet in front of many of the points:
• Confirm the calculation of the number of patients treated through inspection of underlying
treatment and appointment records.• Confirm the calculation of the number of nurses through inspection of underlying staff rotas and records of hours worked supplied to human resources and payroll departments.
• Obtain and inspect the hospital plans to identify the total number of surgical rooms available.
I think perhaps some of the points are a little longer than “normal” because this was the first time “AoPI” was examined after its introduction to the syllabus, so the published answer is giving a little more detail for the benefit of future candidates. The marking guide indicates 1 mark per procedure (as usual) so answer points would be expected to be concise.
Take for example “Obtain copies of the original document in which the basis for calculating the performance measures were agreed; this may be in the form of a strategic document agreed with national health service agencies or the minutes of the executive board. From this, identify whether any specific definition is provided of the term “average” or whether a specific formula is provided. In particular, it is important to ascertain over what period the average must be calculated.”
All this is saying is:
“Agree basis of the “average” calculation to health authority definition or minutes of the executive board.”
May 30, 2019 at 7:02 pm #517974As the procedures are 1 mark each, can a 3 line answer: For example
Discuss with management and any other employees in involved in establishing the performance measures to understand logic behind how the measures are identified and whether they are relevant to the hospitals objectives.
Would this be enough for 1 mark
May 31, 2019 at 7:52 am #518013There are shorter examples of what is worth a mark in the post I have already given. There is no rule about how long a sentence has to be to earn a mark. It has to be long enough to make a valid point. I strongly recommend the article “Looking for guidance on marking?” that I have sticky posted to the top of this forum.
