Hello,
I am studying ACCA on my own. I work for a small finance company and recently started to clear the ACCA exams in sequence. My question is the following:
– I am ready to start recording my PER experience. I have added the details of our Chief Accountant as my workplace mentor in ‘My Experience Account’. However, what does he have to do to register as my workplace mentor? Does he have to set up an account to sign off my experience as I achieve it? We don’t seem to find a link for that… Or is he sent an email/message once I record my experience on a performance objective?Thank you in advance for your assistance.
N.

Thanks
July 27, 2012 at 9:49 am #102123Hi there.
Ok in a nutshell – what you have to do is nominate a workplace mentor – you can have more than one if you wish. Obviously they have to agree to be your mentor! – and to achieve this, they themselves have to go through a registration process on the acca global website (they then get a user number and password so that they can log in).
I am almost certain it is free for them to do this (my mentor never mentioned fees to me).
Then once they are registered you can start your PER.When you complete an assignment (i.e. completing the challenge questions online) and you are happy, you simply click submit and it gives you the option as to which mentor you wish to send it to. Your PER then gets electronically sent to them.
Your profile updates to something like “pending”.
The mentor then gets an email to say you have submitted. When they get this, they need to log in using their own registration detail.
If they are happy with your assignment – they simply click “sign off” – you then get an email back saying “Congrats – your mentor has signed off PER….” etc
Your mentor however does have the power to reject an assignment for any reason. However – I cannot yet say what happens in that case as all mine (thankfully!!) have been signed off so far.Im not certain if mentors have to have any professional qualifications or are subject to ACCA screening or anything – I was lucky because I work for an Accountancy practice and both my mentors are Chartered Accountants already.
Hope this helps 🙂
