Hi Everyone,
I am so confused about what to write in the statements. I’m currently on the Professionalism and ethics module, seeing as I worked in a finance role for three years I am sure that I have acheived the elements of this objective but just cannot put it into words. I have recently left the job and my supervisor is waiting for me to claim the 7 objectives that I earned there but I am already stuck on the first one 🙁 I’ve looked at the ACCA guide which just says the below, which doesn’t give me an idea of how to summarise how I acheived it:
YOUR STATEMENT
What should I write?
Each description should be a concise
explanation of how you achieved the
performance objective description. Remember
that you only need to cover the broad
description of each performance objective. You
don’t need to summarise all the activities you
carried out to achieve the individual elements.
We’ll need details of one or two tasks
that you’ve been involved with for every
performance objective. The tasks should
relate closely to the objective’s description.
Remember there is a limit of 200–300 words for
each statement.
When writing your statement:
•
be concise
•
avoid using jargon or abbreviations, unless
they are explained.
•
provide evidence and examples to help
illustrate your statement.
•
avoid repeating information or making
reference to other statements.
Remember that your experience is unique and
your statement should be unique too.I’m not expecting anyone to tell me exactly what to write, I’m just really stuck on this one !! Please help!!

November 8, 2016 at 7:55 pm #348123Hello all.
I am not sure why so many of you have a problem with it? I dont want to sound like Mister know it all but I have completed all of mine already and found it quite straight forward following the questions. The only part I struggled with was adding extra sentences to make up the minimum number of words – what a nightmare.
In basic words, whatever your PER is, just recall some situation, process etc. to that particular requirement and describe in your own words what was the challenge you faced or what you were required to do, what steps did you take to complete that, how did you plan your course of action, what, if any, obstacles have you faced on the way and how have you tackled them. And finally what was the final outcome and what, if anything (if question asks), have you learned from that experience, whether it is a technical or ethical PER.
Good luck all!

December 7, 2016 at 12:19 pm #354974hey guys ,
i have started my studies and went through to completion whilst i was employed in not so relevant roles. Now i want to complete my PER. The first challenge i have encountered is how on earth do i determine %relevance of a role on any of my roles. For now i have just updated with wild percentages to see what happens but I am not sure if its the right way.
i would really appreciate if anyone in my situation may assist….

Hi Pawel,
Would it be possible for you to share a sample?February 9, 2017 at 12:03 pm #371735Hi
I’ve had a few of my PER objectives signed off, struggling on the mandatory ones but thought I’d share one of my statements with you guys. No idea if it’s actually correct but it’s signed off and that’s what matters right? I hope this provides some inspiration for you guys 🙂
Now can anyone do the same for objectives 2-5 please?
1: Professionalism and ethics
Working in a practice environment, I am exposed to a variety of different clients each with their own unique situations and needs.
Whether bookkeeping, preparing accounts or auditing I must ensure that I am applying all appropriate legislation at all times, updating myself on new legislation as required and looking up the correct legislation for situations I have not come across before. An example of this is ensuring that I applied the correct treatment to properties when FRS 102 came into effect for some of our clients. I researched the correct treatment, checked it with my manager and ensured it was applied correctly to the accounts and disclosure notes.
When preparing accounts I am required to do so in an ethical manner, this includes checking the supporting documents to ensure that transactions exist and are treated correctly, and ensuring that non-taxable deductions are treated as such.
When making decisions, I am careful to use appropriate and reliable information where available, referring decisions to my manager where necessary if judgments need to be made on incomplete information.
I have completed all code of conduct and ethical training provided by my employers, both past and present, and have also completed the ACCA Professional Ethics module.
I have undertaken data protection training and I am careful not to disclose information to third parties without client permission.I am aware of the code of ethics and am comfortable in reporting unethical behaviour to my manager where necessary, although I have not had to do this in my current employment, it has been necessary to report behaviour in my previous employment at ********** PLC.
I am careful to maintain independence from my clients, especially those for whom we perform audit services and am aware of how to avoid threats to my independence.
March 24, 2017 at 9:40 pm #379158A successful PER for one person won’t be any good for another, not just because our experiences are different but mostly because the person signing them off is different.
Just complete one of the easier objectives, share it with your mentor and go from there. The ACCA even simplified the process last year, reducing the requirements considerably.
Asking for examples is pretty pointless and I’d say borderline unethical.
April 17, 2017 at 3:15 pm #382164Hello Guys , I have work in a pharmaceutical as trainee accountant for about a year but didn’t write my PER . problem i am facing now i am confused what to write as my past one year experience as i am no longer working there . May 3, 2017 at 11:05 am #384688Hi All,
I am working within a small business doing tax returns and self assessments however I am confused as to what to write in the Tax section of the PER.
Has anyone done this objective before?
If someone can provide a small example statement, just so I know how to work it?
Many thanks!
May 18, 2017 at 5:19 pm #386878Why cant you all just grow a pair and figure it out yourself. It isn’t rocket science. If you are struggle to fill it in then maybe you haven’t actually got the experience yet!
May 18, 2017 at 7:20 pm #386889I totally agree with you!!
So many threads about the very same topic… sooo annoying!
I wonder how these people have managed to complete ACCA and still have no clue what is expected from them as accounting professionals (which is all the PER are about)!!Whatever, rant over, let’s the begging session go on….

It is plain mean to judge this way when some people are obviously clueless and the least we can do is provide advice and support or maybe just stay quiet if you cannot help.
January 8, 2018 at 3:37 pm #427819Just write a statement that describes how you’ve fulfilled the objectives. If you’ve actually done them this should be easy. My problem was limiting the statements to 300 words as I could have written far more, especially as ACCA’s word count seemed to be about 15-20% higher than MS Word for some reason. I found myself writing a statement that came out to 400-500 words then trying to edit it down, shortening sentences and removing words which weren’t 100% necessary.
My advice would be to write a couple of sentences as a brief introduction and then a couple of sentences for each of the 5 elements of the objective. You want to end up with something that clearly demonstrates you have met all 5. There is not enough room to do anything more than this. You certainly can’t go into details about how you did each thing or give long lists of examples.
I would post my statements as an example but they contain personal information, and I’m sure some lazy students would just copy them word for word and submit them.
February 28, 2018 at 10:29 pm #439443To give you my 2 cents ive recently completed my PER.
I struggled at first, spent half a day and got no where.
Remember you only need to give examples of 2 of the points in each section and not every point – otherwise impossible to fit within 300 words.
Also the best thing for me was to use a friends PER saved in word as a guideline to complete mine. Once i had his all of a sudden writing the experience became easy and i completed all 9 elements within 2 days.

Hi moe30,
there are 5 elements to claim for each objectives right? So may I know is it the 2 of the points in each section you mean is refer to I would need to describe my work for only two elements? Or give 2 examples of each 5 elements?
Thanks for you help!March 2, 2018 at 10:30 pm #439757There are 5 or so elements for each objective.
When writing an objective you have to only give examples of 2 elements only per objective. Of course your manager should be satisfied you meet all the elements but only need to give example of 2 in the writing section otherwise its impossible to fit in within 309 wordsMarch 2, 2018 at 10:55 pm #439758I am about to type up my last 3 PER objectives after next week’s exam. I am done with 7 out of 9. Need to type up 8, 9 and 10 then I am done with my PER. So happy. 🙂
When I called ACCA about a month ago, they said that as long as your mentor is satisfied you have achieved the objective properly, doesn’t matter how many of the elements you “tick”.
I believe the elements are only there to give some sort of idea and framework to go with and of course to maintain consistency so that people have similar quality of PER to become a member. It’s only fair as can you imagine if one person barely had any experience and completed the PER objectives barely knows anything and then somebody else works in a higher position with a lot of responsibility like preparing budgets, financial statements, managing a team or a department etc.
I find it ridiculous that people can’t be bothered to call ACCA and ask for guidance on PER and read about it but rather choose the easy option and “plagiarise” someone else’s already written PER statement.
May 8, 2018 at 10:39 am #450563Hie guys. can someone help me on writing my PER statements . i know l have to write what l did but its hard .. Can someone help please. l managed to write objective 1 and 5 .
May 8, 2018 at 1:39 pm #450593The first one is always the hardest one but after you’ve had a go at it and you’ve had periodical discussions with your supervisor it gets easier. What I suggest is to just use the elements as a guide to do the write up and discuss it with your supervisor and make the necessary changes. You have to start somewhere.
