Good afternoon to everybody and good luck to your ACCA journey. I personally started to study F5 and F8 for June exams because I have been exempted from F1 to F4. I already have bought from BPP the F5 full kit (book, past papers, flashcards etc.). It is so much material that of course, I can’t do as many others because there are 350 pages on the book and 350 pages in the past papers, flashcards etc. That way I should leave my job to achieve ACCA or take an exam every semester which I won’t. I like the OpenTuition way and the study lectures and notes but I would like to know what is meant when OpenTuition professors say that studying only from OT you can ‘’pass well’’. Does this mean pass with a maximum of 60% so I won’t be able to do many mistakes and it is in doubt if I pass or it means that I can pass with 80% so there is no problem if I make some mistakes. Thank you very much for your answers.
January 30, 2018 at 8:50 am #433950To pass well you need to practice as many questions as possible. Saying you can’t possibly get through all the material is a bit defeatist in my opinion. Your aim should be to read through the whole textbook making notes or watch all the OpenTuition lectures, and then practice every single question in the exam kit. It’s perfectly possible to do that if you put in the effort.
Your pass mark really depends on how much effort you put in, how efficiently you study and how easily you grasp the concepts. It’s certainly possible to pass with a mark above 80% if you use the OT materials but seeing as you already have the BPP kit then you might as well use it. Personally I used Kaplan materials for all exams apart from F1 and don’t really use the OT material, but I find this forum helpful for asking questions to other students and the tutors and also reading questions and replies from others.
January 30, 2018 at 9:18 am #433958Maybe it is my fault of this misconception of what I asked. What I meant is that, if I read all the OT notes and lectures what are my chances and the higher score that I could get. I have a moral aquity of passing the ACCA exams but I find it difficult to complete 2 courses in a semester from a learning provider. From OT it is more than possible. And of course practice questions. Kaplan is very expensive in comparison with BPP, I really would prefer to donate OT which I will for every module that I am going to pass. I also find overmuch to practice 350 pages of questions, it is so uncessesary. I believe that working on the questions from 2013 to 2017 which are free from ACCA are more than enough.
January 30, 2018 at 9:58 am #433963I understand that it’s difficult to go to 2 courses in one go. This is why I never go to classes. I study on my own, in my own time, whenever I can fit it in. Classes are expensive too if your employer is not paying for them. I’m not saying Kaplan is better than BPP, just that it’s what I use.
I think though that you need to appreciate the benefit of practicing a lot of questions. If you want to pass well that’s what it takes. It doesn’t actually take as long as you think but to get through these exams you need to put in the effort. You will find it hard or boring sometimes but motivating yourself to work through that is all part of the challenge.
The past papers are of some use, but bear in mind the exam formats and syllabuses change regularly. The updated exam kits from the learning providers take old questions and update them for the new syllabuses and new tax rates etc. so for me they are much more helpful than past papers. I don’t see how you can say with confidence that past papers will be enough when you’ve never sat an ACCA exam?
January 30, 2018 at 10:11 am #433965I can understand what you are saying. Although I have never sat on an ACCA exam, it is just my opinion that past papers would be enough. However you are right in what you are saying about the updated question. I really practice and study, I have put the effort and I also have the motivation but I also have some other obligations (family, 10 hours work each day etc.). I don’t know your condition, maybe you are a only a student (not working) so you can study in more depth each paper and dedicate much more time. Thanks for your answers.
January 30, 2018 at 10:27 am #433966I work full time, but more like 8-9 hours per day. I also don’t have a family to look after. So I guess I do have more time available than you. I strongly believe though that if you want something enough, you will make time for it regardless of what else is happening in your life.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in your studies. Keep using these forums as they are a valuable resource.
