March 21, 2019 at 9:01 pm #510004History! It used to be the case that a banking partnership could have no more than 10 principals but that got changed (I think in the 1948 Companies Act)
Then, from 1948, the maximum number of partners in a firm, including a bank partnership, was essentially 20
But there were 3 main exceptions identified
Those exceptions were: accountants, solicitors and members of the stock exchange – for those three there is no limit
However, there was a further list of quasi-exceptions. The general rule here was that no fewer than 75% of their principals should be members of an appropriate professional association and these quasi-exceptions included (not a full list): estate agents, land agents, estate managers, architects, building designers …
It always seemed to me that the list included ‘professions’ where there was an appropriate professional association
Thus, for estate agents, there is the National Association of Estate Agents and for architects there is the Royal Institute of British Architects
It’s most improbable that you’ll be faced with a question for which the answer is included in the above post and I feel quite embarrassed that I know such trivia!
OK?
