I did questions 1, 2, 3 and 5.
didnt have clue about answering question 5.
was really difficult, just will have to resit in june.
December 6, 2010 at 3:13 pm #72699neva mind,,, just relax & pray for success come feb 2011. i likewise did not do question 4, i only did the 4 marks part of it. while i missed the 5 cheap marks on ethics in question 1. but i did my best in those questions i attempted altho i can not say that my attempt was 100% correct. nevertheless, i know that God will still do it & i’ll have my pass mark.

I did questions 1,2,3 and attempted 4! Why I say attempted is like you I looked at q4 & 5 and thought haven’t got a clue about either so just had to go with 1 or the other.
also for the other questions what i put down did not seem to be enough for the marks available but could not think or anything else.
Oh well bring on the June re-sits 🙁December 6, 2010 at 3:27 pm #72701@1982,,,dt exactly my quesstion combination too. i attempted questions 1,2,3, bt when i get to q4 there was just 10mins left & besides dt i dint v time to think abt d requirement.i later got to know dt question 5 was cheaper as it has to wit personal service companies & there were quite a number of eazy marks.if u attempted q 1,2,3 very well u may still have some chances of passing.. let just pray for success, pls dnt think of resiting until u actually get the result. who knows u may pass afterall.

The other questions went ok, but like you i missed out the ethics part in Q1 which now like you say could of been a few easy marks.
Shall be praying for success for me and everyone else.December 6, 2010 at 4:40 pm #72704AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Best of luck to everyone! I went first for question 5. I thought it was ok, need to compare how much money it will cost to hire companies in UK and overseas and self-employed. Write how HMRC question self employed v employed and to compare cost if employee will perform research v company. Other questions I found very time consuming. And was mostly writing, hardly use calculator.

Q1 and 2 were time consuming and I had plenty to waffle on about. Once I got to section B I started panicing. I wanted something to jump out and there was nothing. Nothing on individuals/pension. Just gains and IHT. Luckily I had read about Remittance basis a couple of times in the last few days, so picked up a few marks in an easily overlooke area. I did 4 & 5. I had Fonseca as the cheapest because input and output vat nulled each other out. I brought in Personal Services company into this too. For the company which charged VAT, I understood that only part of the input VAT could be recovered as the research costs cannot be directly attributable to standard rated supplies.
In summary – 1 and 2 were fair, but section B was a killer! Good luck all
December 6, 2010 at 5:41 pm #72706YUCK YUCK YUCK and hardly used my calculator eithr, thought i was just being a bit dozy, and if anyone else was sitting it in Norwich like myself, the heating had broke, it was freezing!!! i had to have my coat on all the way through, but the hands were like ice and shaking with cold and my teeth were chattering not good at all!!!!
December 6, 2010 at 6:24 pm #72707awhhh…the panic of P6 ix finally over…gush way too lengthy paper. Attempted Question 3, 4, 1 and finally 2. Question 1 and 3 went superb as for question 3 i practiced it quiet a few time before exam and during last 2 days so i think it will get me a gud marks, Question 1 went fine too although writing memorandum was way too lengthy but still manageable. Part 2 and 3 of question 4 were very easy but i end up mingalling part 1 of ques 4. In last i have just 15 min to go and rushed upto to get 12 marks on inheritance question.
Finally i am very much hopefull that paper will be thru INSHALLAH by Almighty ALLAH’s blessingsDecember 6, 2010 at 6:31 pm #72708Hi All
I also did 1, 2, 3 & 5 and also didnt use my calculator much either. No one seemed too even in the F6 section of room. I thought a very wordy and time consuming too.
I messed up on Q1 a&b couldnt think what to do or even which way round for indexation!! great start for the most amount of marks….I went totally blank but hopefully did ok on the VAT and ethics, so got some marks
What did everyone recommend?
Q2 I thought was ok but I messed up with saying she had only been in country for 4 years so no RBC !!! I did talk about it tho and said when it would apply so hopefully made some marks up there (fingers crossed anyhow)
Q3 a, selling of own shares. Did Melba finish up owning more or less than 30%, I cant remember now what I said….
Messed up on b as didnt pick up on it being a close company so different rules so dropped loads marks thereQ5 did parts b & c first as was running out of time and wanted to pick up some marks – I did Congac less the exempt VAT and talked about personal services companies. I think I recommended the sole trader as not much difference between that and overseas company but less admin and costs due to the VAT having to be in and out on the overseas aspect thingy.
What did everyone else put?
Good luck to you all and fingers crossed for 9 nine weeks time

I thought the paper was fair, I did questions 3,4,1 and 2. Purchase of own shares, treatment of losses, remittance of foreign income, revision paid off. I covered this area over and over and over. Question 1 was obvious to demanding time wise. Question 2 was a gift if you had covered that area. Good luck guys, now i can put my feet up.

I taught the paper was ok. there were very less calculation but the examiner focused more on the theory of technical points. I attempted 1,2,3 & 5 and there was no issue of time constrain because I strictly adhered to the 1.8 mins per mark strategy. In q1 & 2 there were some stuffs that were nt covered in the exam kit. q3 was more of a dolly question ..was really easy scoring q.. did somehting in q5 nt sure if its right… hoping for the best …

i did question 1,2,3 and 5. I am a bit confused why so many people found 5 hard. Its either that or I have misunderstood it and got ot all wrong.
Im sure 5 was to do with a personal service company.

I hope you all remembered the 17 year rule for IHT purpose. i.e. Once the lady had stayed in the UK for a further 3 years, the overseas assets she inherited form part of her ‘estate’ for UK IHT purposes. I was particularly proud of remembering that!!! Good luck to all.

I remembered that too, beleive at the current date she had only been there for 14 years so said depends on when she dies if she is deemed UK domilcile.
Good luck too.December 14, 2010 at 1:04 pm #72716Hmmm…q 1,2,3,4…..was considering q5, but with time going, I went for the easier marks.
