Easy and common questions π However it was difficult to answer!Firstly i was confused with the insitutional investor’s behaviour… 2 small easy questions by 6 marks each, but i didn’t answer them from my best! What did you write in response to questions about insitutional investors?
its was about the SOS RAINS mnemonic
strategic, operational, socail, remmuneration , acquasition , internal controls . non complaince and succession planningDecember 15, 2010 at 5:30 am #74809I did’nt Get The Stages Or Steps About Enviromental

This is my first time of writing and to be fair, the paper was quite difficult.
The questions were not straight fwd. I answered q1,q2 & q3.
The q on institutional investors are still not clear as at today to me.
The stages of environmental audit are not in our BPP & Kaplan ACCA manual however I tried goggling it and discovered that they were pre audit stage, audit stage and post audit satge .this is on the websites https://www.snh.org.uk/publications/on-line/advisorynotes/45/45.htmlets hope for the best.

Think the Enviromental Audit stages are below:
1) Agreed Metrics
2) Performance v Metrics
3) Reporting (On Compliance etc)December 15, 2010 at 3:03 pm #74812Anonymous

I think the paper was ok, but didnt have enough time to answer the questions fully. i could have done better if i have revised ethics more. I couldnt quite relate absolutism and relativism to the case. It was really strange but i did attempt it by forcing the situation to the theory.
Overall Question 1 was a bit different – hard to know whether I have answered well enough. Q3 about NEDs was good. Q4 – can’t remember what it was but i remember it being the easiest.

p.s. i looked at question 2 and didnt even bother reading the case. the questions were specifically environment and ethic and i find these questions harder.

Guys, if you think that something was wrong with the questions tell ACCA about that!

maybe it will worth 2 marks for us πDecember 15, 2010 at 9:42 pm #74816I didn’t think the exam was that bad, I’d say it was easier than the June one. My time management was poor again and I had a hard time getting answers down for all the questions but thought I could answer them all, which was something I struggled with in the June exam.
When are the exams available for download from the ACCA website? I thought it was the next day for the June exams or did I imagine that?

I think that the requirement in Q1 was to prepare part of the speach, not the entire speach. In this case, I think that the answer shouldn’t be as a speach format, starting with:”Ledies and gentlemen”.
Can we see somewhere some proposed answers? ACCA will show on their site maybe in Jan or Feb.December 16, 2010 at 1:19 pm #74820The institutional investors question was not a technical one. It is a very topical issue as they hold over 50% of the shares in the FTSE 100.
Basically II’s traditionally dont get very involved with the Board, they have been passive even though they have significant influence potentially.
So referring to the exam II’s are more likely to ‘interven’ if:
* The co has been poorly run
* The co is not meeting CG standards (IE the CC)
* Pressure from individual shareholders who the II fund represents
* There has been corporate scandals or unethical behaviou (EG RBS)This was not a clear area of the syllabus but it is not a difficult area for those that have a little understanding/interest.

The issue of intervention of institutional investors is treated in one page in the manual from Kaplan.

The paper was not friendly. Number 1 consumed like 2 hours and i rushed to finish those other 2 number.; overall the paper was hard. Its God to help us pass. I tried and wrote whatever came to our minds.
December 16, 2010 at 6:06 pm #74823The paper was fair if one had prepared adquately. Quetion one confused me, didn’t use some of the facts in the question though i could identify the issues didn’t know where to use them. I pray i answered correctly.

the paper was hard i tried q 1,2,4 i escaped from “best interest” area, environmental audit is a new issue nothing much u can say about it, without standards set up, all was script from my head nothing in the text i can match it with.
enshalla i pass
cross fingers enshalla we all passDecember 16, 2010 at 9:12 pm #74825The paper was bit difficult but I would say is too long to read the questions so you do not have time to go back again and prove read your writing. In particular with q1 with that Shazia Lo, just tried to attempt every question hopefully i did well. Thanks to open tuition who are the best (did not attend any classes but just used open tuition, i would recommend to every one )
Marry christmas and happy new year
best of luck to every one

I did questions 1, 3 and 4.
There seems to be very little reference to the theories in the textbooks (either that or I’m screwed), most questions can be answered using common sense (that again or I’m screwed).
The questions seems quite random and the tips provided didn’t help at all. I was glad that I read up a little on relativism and absolutism on the last minute. As for most of it, I bullsh!ted my way through.

Dear Mr. Allen Blewitt,
I am a father of an ACCA student. Due to confidentiality reason I donβt want to disclose the identity of my son. We are Indian national and currently residing in Kuwait. My son is studying in Professional module of ACCA.
There are no effective ACCA tuition providers in Kuwait. Currently, the Great Ernst & Young (E&Y) and one Pakistani school is providing the ACCA tuitions. Both of these institutions provide just 2 classes per week for 3 hours each. The instructors hired by these institutions are not effective and do not have any relevant teaching experience. They just blindly deliver the lecture and do not have any grip on the subject matter. They have simple made ACCA tuitions as money making exercise.
Well the main purpose of writing this e-mail to you is that to highlight what have gone with ACCA now days. Why ACCA is on a yearly basis increasing its subscription fees? Why ACCA is drafting its papers in such a way that only few percentages of students pass the exams? Why ACCA Examiners draft the exam paper by keeping in mind the competency level of just few students studying at London College of Accountancy (LCA), BPP, FTC?
My son has currently given P1 β Professional Accountant and P2 – Corporate Reporting exams. In order to pass these paper, the candidate must attempt compulsory question of 50 marks and other two question of 25 marks each. The examiner Mr. David Campbell has drafted the paper P1 in such a way that first 15 minutes reading time plus additional 5 minutes from the 3 hour writing time took for reading the scenario of question 1 (compulsory question) only. I know most of the students who complained the same that they didnβt found time to read the other scenarios of other question (i.e. question 2, 3 and 4) in order to select the question of their choice.
The student are trying very hard to clear their exams and but due to the exam setting techniques of examiners, majority of the students disappointed after giving the exams. I can frankly tell you that majority of the students are so tensed that they are unable to select the papers for their next attempts till their result time and thus when results are out, the students have left with no time.
My dear in Kuwait, if a boy reaches over 20 years of his age, then his father can no longer sponsor him and he has to search for a job in order to stay in Kuwait. Due to this almost 90% of male students are full time employed in Kuwait and they find very little time for their studies. The working environment is so bad in this country, that your employer will never leave you from 08:00 AM to 07:00 PM.
Both myself and my son as well as other students those who have appeared in F7, F9 and P1 this time have been feed up and trying to quit ACCA. The examiner job is to design the paper in such a way that majority of the students (both in UK and other part of the world) can effectively answer the questions. The examiners should not draft the paper in order to simply prove that he/she can also draft the exam papers.
Hope you understand the situation
Regards

i thought that we are supposed to prepare excerpts of the speech, do we still need things like dear ladies and gentleman?
January 4, 2011 at 7:58 am #74832One thing , I can bet that those people who have attempted the entire paper surely have not read the questions thoroughly , then again examiner will mention in his feedback “Many students failed to read the whole question”..
Secondly, all the students of Professional stage were amazed about the unpredictibility of the exam questions,.
Third, all the papers were too lengthy , atleast examiner must not trap the students with time consuming questions as all the students will accept their failures on conceptual grounds rather than on handwriting speed .. We are professional students not writing experts..
Again examiner as usual will mention that many students failed to gain professional marks and handwriting was poor .. How come a student can present so lenghty paper adequately ..
Hope u all will agree !!!January 5, 2011 at 10:46 am #74833Anonymous

I fully agree with the post above.
I don’t understand why ACCA didn’t post yet on their website the answers.
Is any explanation to this? - AuthorPosts
