Contruct a case means Arguing in favor of…………. its not about weaknesses……
December 13, 2010 at 6:58 pm #74781I don’t think any of the tipped areas came up! Goes to show you have to learn the whole syllabus.

I thought the paper was ok although after the exam had ended everyone commented that it was too hard!
Especially the small questions, i believe they were very clear. Though I’m not sure if I did well on the first question but the report part was quite enjoyable! πDecember 13, 2010 at 7:12 pm #74783This is my first sitting of P1. To my mind the peper was not hard. All U had to do just use common sense and a little bit of theory. The exam technique is really important. I run out of time. I think I fail just because of my poor revision and time management. But guys, this paper was rather easy for whose who was well prepared.

The paper is fair but too much time pressure. Pilot paper has one question about Institutional investors and how they intervene. They are the one who hold majority of shareholdings and they can use their voting rights to interfere with company policies, internal controls etc.
Anyway, Hope everyone will make it. Good luck for other papers.

wer the hell is institution investors on the syllabus
December 13, 2010 at 7:51 pm #74786I cant help but laugh at myself. First of all, the exam wasnt soo hard but needed commonself and in my opinion the case study was way too longggggggg. i think by the time i read it all, i was about snoring… i understood ethical relativsm and absolutis, (thank God for morning revision) as well as institutionalism but then it came to the speech section and i totally screwed up there cos first of all, i forgot to greet the audience and just went straight into it……although i answered the question, my construction was poor. Hopefully i only miss the professional marks aspect of it……
What in God’s name are the stages in environmental audit? i wrote what i think it is but not so sure about it…. Time flew by like turnado.. 1hr.30mins into it , i was only on question 1b.lololol but i managed to finish it all to the best of my abitlity. Hopefully fingers crossed, i will manage to get 50% marks which in my view is called ” Let my people go” grade….. By God’s grace I won’t have to resit it and pray desperately for God’s favour and favour in the sight of my marker……. P1 done, p3 next. arrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhh
December 13, 2010 at 8:47 pm #74787My first attempt at P1, sounds like i did as well as everyone else, struggled with the institutional investors part – 12 Marks, the PP text barely mentions institutional investors! – Threw in some guess work with a load of theory and hoping for the best

Hi folks
Well this is the second time I have taken this exam. I thought I had done enough in June but fell short by 3 marks. I think I have done worse here.
I tend to find difficulty in where the examiners questions want you to go. There was a lot of stuff about internal control. I completely missed the speech requirement. Was that on q1?
I did 3 and 4 in section b as I couldn;t think what the three stages of Environmental audit were. (I see a few others thought that too).
I find some of the question too ambiguous not giving a clear direction where we should go and how deep we should dig into a subject.
For those candidates who find the exam time pressured and too wordy, it;s time to wake up and smell the coffee. All Professional level exams are like that, so all you can do is your best. Keep your chins up!
Have a great holiday season all of you. Thank for putting your posts on here. They may not help me pass, but they comfort my soul after a gruelling exam session!!! lolDecember 13, 2010 at 9:25 pm #74789i’m still mourning on it.
this paper was harder than any past paper. i just hope for the best.

happy holidays!December 13, 2010 at 9:33 pm #74791I’m not sure if it was a hard paper or I just wasn’t prepared enough for the professional level questions. I knew all the knowledge I just got stuck on what exactly they were looking for… I’d say I got no professional marks that’s for sure!!!

Hi everybody,
First time sitting P1 and I think it was a fair paper. I agree with everybody that Q1 one was deep and long, spent 1hr and 45min. I did Q3 & Q4 but had to rush through Q4 as there was not much time left.I was pushed for time and definately struggled with time management. I just hope I get my 50% – insha’allah.
All the best people and happy holidays!!

I thought Q1 was ok, although I thought of things after that I should have mentioned. I did Q4 next and couldn’t decide between Q2/Q3 which to do. I thought I could answer Q2 better and took a stab at it, maybe not the best choice, especially as I was running out of time, but it did prompt me to go back and add a few comments to my embedded risk question, so maybe that helped.
This was my first time taking it and it was tough, but I guess they’re supposed to be… I thought all the past P1 papers were tough – I wasn’t properly prepared.

Not such difficult questions but to answer was a bit tricky..Goodluck for the results guys!
December 14, 2010 at 12:19 am #74795Difficult!!!
First attempt at P1 and boy was i blown away!!!
Q1, Q2 & Q3 for me.
What on earth is an environmental audit?!!!
All I know was that Q1 was like an Enron type scenario, however I couldn’t see in the case how long the auditors had been working with the company, but I somehow managed to mention the 5 year change over of auditors, whether it was right or wrong.
Q2, sounded like the BP Oil Spill, however I was looking for the presidents role in the scenario which I just couldn’t find.
Q3. NEDs parts a & b were fine, but c, Best Practice of CG??? Is that the principals?
I just kept repeating answers in every question about the Committees! Oh well…enter for June 10 again!
Whens the question paper and answers likely to be released?
December 14, 2010 at 12:20 am #74796with those long scenario, by the time you read and absorb it
my goodness, i still hope to pass, because i did writeDecember 14, 2010 at 4:00 am #74797its complicated to define, even I knew the answers but was feeling difficult to answer them, did my best but still confused

Hi alls..
Well, as usual, even though some of my friends said P1 is easy, I never trust them. This is my second sitting and I still find the paper tough. Yes, the questions were a little bit different in terms of the approach. It’s like, “up to you how to answer it as long as you get lots of marks”. So, i just write whatever I can remember.huhuhu… Failing mood is in the air but somehow, deep in my heart, please Allah, give me a chance to smile for this paper…:)

this P1 exam was hard for me concerning 1 question only. I know nothing about investor’s behaviour thouh i read study system several times and did not find info about it
December 14, 2010 at 12:20 pm #74801If I am being honest, the reason why I thought it was a difficult paper was because I was not prepared for what actually came up in the exam. I relied too heavily on the exam tips from Kaplan, BPP, LBSE and ExP. I don’t think any of them got it right.
Kaplan are normally quite good at their tips, and there is always some similarity between the QBD Questions and the actual exam.
Apart from the question regarding the speech, I was able to write something where I felt at least 60% confident that I was on the right lines. The speech though, I am convinced I messed up
December 14, 2010 at 12:39 pm #74802see the result after in Feb then.

I thought is was a fair paper overall. The institutional investor part was similar to the one in the pilot paper. Institutional investors may intervene if there are concerns about strategy, operational performance, poor CSR, ineffective NEDs, poor remuneration policy etc.
Although there was lots time pressure. I did q1, 2 and 3. however I can’t remember the stages in environmental audit but when i read the case i picked some ideas like evaluation of the company controls for envirenmental risk, impact assessment, I have no idea if that was what the examiner was asking for.
Anyway good luck to all.

December 14, 2010 at 4:09 pm #74805i think it was ok, the requirements just needed translating into proper english as the questions weren’t straight forward coming…I leave in hope
