December 14, 2010 at 9:09 am #72851In Q1, it says calculate Joe Jones’s Taxable Income, so where then do you account for the £3000 into his Personal Pension ?
Does this not increase the Band ?December 14, 2010 at 5:14 pm #72852AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

i took my examination in Pakistan. It was an okay paper. What i have learnt from these papers is if u have practiced past papers then attempting this paper is not that difficult. Time management is really important in this paper

I think examiner should focus on income tax rather than testing other areas.

It was very difficult. I worked out all the problems in BPP exam kit. But it was not enough. I read chapter 4 in BPP text which is on benefits. But I feel that the information in the chapter is not enough to tackle question 1. If I fail this one, I don’t even know how to prepare again to resit in June, 2011.

I took the exam in jamaica and i was really disappointed with the examiner, the degree of difficulty was too high, and to be honest its like ACCA is doing every thing for you not to pass and i am seriously concidering other options in getting qualified. Most of the people i spoke with share the same sentiment.

This paper unlike any other paper was pretty bad. never like any question I’ve solved before in the revision kit. The paper was very dodgy, I wonder why the examiner did that for.

It’s good paper, it’s better than previous exams, but I didn’t study will, so I will pass or ….!?!?
December 18, 2010 at 2:09 pm #72864I felt good – hopeful – after the 15 minutes reading time. But the hall (Alexandra Palace) was so cold I was freezing by the time I knew it. Eventually, succumbed to nature’s call and to warm my hands in hot water in the loo. Managed to answer only 3 questions.

I cannot believe the amount of people who are worrying about this exam!! ok so there were some tricky questions, but altogether the syllabus was tested but just in a different way.
The students that will struggle are the people who are learning by rote and how to slot numbers in to a proformer, without ever really understanding what they are doing!!
The PAYE question was easy marks, and an accountant who does not know how to check a PAYE code or what it stands for is sorely lacking in the requirements needed to make a professional career.
Perhaps i am being a little harsh and i dont think my answers were by any means perfect but there were an easy fifty marks here even for those who are learning by themselves. I know i missed out on bits, but the reading time is essential to pull out those trigger points and scribble a note as to what to do with these!
Q1 was a dream!!
Q2 was just corporation tax – ignore the overseas and groups and still get over 80%
Q3 ok some tricky bits but again 80% easily
Q4 this is professional accounting – do the car benefit calc, do the company calc, compare!!! discuss… the kind of thing you should expect your clients to ask you daily!!!
Q5 brilliant, whathever you do – follow through!!! again 50% attainableAbove all dont worry, you probably did better than you think 🙂

December 21, 2010 at 8:38 am #72867F6 (MYS): For Q1(a), the child relief quite confusing for child when her total income (for the child) is equal to relief which is RM 4 000 excluding tips for the year….the answer can be NIL or declare the amount because we do know whether she will received the tips for the year or not….(Mildred Lopez, please explain this)…..
