Please lets us try to work together so we can all pass. We start by making a convenient time table that gives enough time for revision. The aim is to finish the text as soon as possible.August 10, 2014 at 2:50 am #189064yes i am interested in P7 week-end group revision

August 10, 2014 at 7:11 pm #189247Wow Hamdy! You have just posted this above and messaged me for advice to make sure that you don’t collectively waste your time. That’s certainly put me on the spot!
I suppose first things first – are you all committed to reading a study text (and is it the same text?)
If you want my personal input on that point – I wouldn’t be committed to such a struggle. However, if you collectively wish to do it then let the majority make that executive decision.
It seems that Ifeoma has been elected as leader (congratulations Ifeoma!)
You need a standard hour (or two) repeated every week. The in-between time is for you to read the sections / chapters / articles that Ifeoma directs and the first part of your weekly group session will be to discuss any problems / issues that you had with the previous week’s reading.
My own (very limited ) experience of this type of group working is that most of the input is left to just one or two participants whilst the remainder sit back and enjoy the ride. To get over this, Ifeoma, you should delegate the responsibility to the members of the group on a rotational basis so that each one of the group of ten leads a session (not enough weeks for everyone to take two weeks’ leadership 🙁 )
Whereas each participant will lead at least one group session, Ifeoma should be the one responsible for specifying the reading for the forth-coming week
If at any time any one of you feels that progress is not being made, or not being made fast enough …. cast aside your inhibitions and be prepared to email Ifeoma personally direct with your concerns (ifeyan@yahoo.com). Be polite – remember, Ifeoma is doing this voluntarily – and invite her response either individually or through a group discussion about your suggestion. But don’t waste time on the discussion – a quick input from each of you in turn, maybe a supplementary turn each, and then a quick vote
Ifeoma, IF the group is committed to reading through the text (Heaven help you all!) then count the number of chapters, decide how many weeks you wish to spread this reading exercise over, divide one by the other and that’s your reading list sorted. You can do it by counting the pages and dividing by the weeks – some chapters will be longer than others!
If there is not a group commitment to get through a study text, then get suck into the opentuition course notes and a reputable revision kit. The course notes should take no longer than 2 hours simply to read through. Do that exercise probably three times over the first three weeks (possibly four times!)
Listen to the lectures until you’re sick of hearing my voice
Then get stuck into the revision kit. It’s possible that some of you are using BPP where others are using Kaplan or GTG or ATC or Emile Woolf or …….
So maybe better to download from the opentuition website the ACCA copy of the past 10 exams (4 weeks of note reading and discussion and 10 weeks of past exam studying and discussion) + 3 weeks personal revision = 17 weeks = exam time (nearly)
If you download the ACCA exams, you’ll all be working with the real deal and not some adapted question that has been amended by the various different publishers
Will that do?
If you have any further questions, post again. But remember, I have no experience of studying in this way so caveat emptor! (It means “let the buyer beware” – you get what you pay for and since you’re not paying me you have no claim against me if things go wrong!
Which hopefully they won’t
August 10, 2014 at 7:55 pm #189255Hamdy – having answered this, I was disappointed to see that you’ve posted on the Ask the Tutor page as well.
Please, only post a question once, not multiple times
August 10, 2014 at 8:02 pm #189256Really thanks Sir for the quick reply, and the perfect (huge) advices as usual
And to not waste our time, I’ll start with the most important advice by you Sir@mikelittle said:

I am interested to join the group.
brilamhk@yahoo.com.hkAugust 11, 2014 at 9:27 am #189337You’ll soon realise that the notes are skeleton – they are fleshed out (sorry if any of you are vegetarians!) by the recorded lectures.
There are one or two areas where the lectures are not bang up-to-date such as mandatory rotation of auditors and the requirement of tendering
In addition, all of you individually should be subscribed (it’s free) to http://www.accountancyage.com.
It’s a daily publication and invariably has at least one article of relevance to P7
Finally, you should all be regular readers of the IASPLUS website which keeps you up to date with what’s going on in the World of changing ACCOUNTING standards
August 11, 2014 at 9:29 am #189338Hamdy – yes – just so long as you get through the notes thoroughly and then get stuck into past question

Will you believe me if I say that, I know a lot of persons pass this exams with just Opentuition notes and more practices revision kit (I swear), so for me;
1) now I just read quickly the LSBF notes (June 2014 verision)
2) I’ll study well (as I can) your brilliant Opentuition Course notes
3) I’ll do more practices with BPP revision kit (Dec 2014)
4) read/ memorize as possible as can on BPP passcards (Dec 2014)I will not do any more, and I think it’s enough
