Anybody willing to study p7 together. Kindly let me know asap
February 15, 2015 at 8:30 pm #228497Tania, why have you posted this on the Ask the Tutor page?
February 15, 2015 at 11:07 pm #228507Mike what is the best way to start P7? I mean from reading of the textbook ?
February 16, 2015 at 7:50 am #228527Probably not! Bear in mind that P7 involves substantial knowledge of P2 IAS / IFRS so there’s a place to think about directing your efforts.
I know that you didn’t achieve a pass mark in the December exam so I assume that you did sufficient work beforehand to give yourself a realistic expectation of success. That being the case, it could well be a matter of exam technique that is preventing the marker from giving you those extra few marks.
Read the exam technique articles on this site for P7, “general” and, in addition read the 2 articles written by 2 members of the P3 marking team. You’ll find them in Student Accountant about 2 years ago. They essentially say the same as OpenTuition’s own articles (referred to at the start of this paragraph)
Read also the examiner’s own suggested solutions from past exams going back to December 2007 (again available on this site) and particularly note the style and the number of separate markable points within those answers.
When you have read, read and read agin those solutions, try planning your own answers to some of those past exam questions. Allocate the appropriate length of planning time (number of marks per question / part question divided by 2 is the length of time in minutes that you should spend planning what you would have written were it to be in the exam room)
When you have planned, check your plan against the suggested solution and note how many sensible matters that you missed! When I used to have to do this as a student, there were numerous occasions when I read something in an answer and said to myself “Well, I knew that” but I hadn’t written it into my plan. Then ask yourself “Why not?”
Plan, plan and then plan some more until you find that you have included within your efforts substantially all the markable points raised by the examiner when the examiner wrote their own version of “the model answer”
Hope all that helps

can you please give me advice on whether to do p7 and p6 together?I.m definitely going to do tax but not sure if I should do p5 or p6.Thanks
February 17, 2015 at 8:11 pm #228971“I.m definitely going to do tax but not sure if I should do p5 or p6.”
I believe that you meant P5 or P7!
I can’t give you any advice re P5 – not in my repertoire 🙁
How long is it since you did P2? Because there’s a lot of financial accounting knowledge required for P7
Both exams are tough but there’s rather less calculation in P7 (I believe) There’s still some (materiality calculations) but I’m given to understand that there’s more than just a little bit in P5
They are available to be passed together but a lot depends on the availability of your time and what other demands there are that may prevent you from putting in 100%
Sorry not to be more helpful 🙁
February 17, 2015 at 8:45 pm #228977Hi Mike
I did my p2 exam in dec 14. Thanks for all your help otherwise I will not pass.
I think I will do them both together thanks for your advice and I believe it’s passable if your here to help 🙂
February 19, 2015 at 4:48 pm #229222I just love your demonstration of utmost faith! It’s you that is going to achieve any success – it’s your efforts, motivation, dedication.
I’m just hovering in the background giving advice as and when you ask for it.
But it’s you that’s going to pass these exams

February 20, 2015 at 5:13 pm #229345Kerri, there are a number of posts from me about my feelings on how to tackle P7 – in fact, I’ve just posted one to Gabriel above your post.
There’s also a long post half way down this thread in reply to a question from Larisadallakyan that I believe will answer you.
I’m already looking forward to this wagon load of questions that you shall be sending my way!

All I ask of you is that you actively promote opentuition in your country.
