The ACCA should make this an open book exam as is the case for ALL ACA (ICAEW) exams. My lecturer states the P6 paper has the widest syllabus’ and of all accounting exams – including open book ACA papers which she says have more predicable questions.
The exam is confusing enough as it is without having to remember so many details (dates, time periods, penalties and calculations) which only tests memory not application.
June 10, 2016 at 11:48 am #321963i received the feedback email today and I completed it.
but I feel I need to do more to make sure ACCA and the examiner know what this paper has done to many students.
especially when students don’t know what wrong they did.
this was my second attempt of the paper. my first fail was to do with time management and it was a fair paper. I have worked on my time management since then, attempted all questions in the Kaplan exam kit. I sat all assessments and revision mock in time condition.
the day before the exam I sat the qbd Kaplan exam paper and I got 58%. I went in there with so much confidence.
what else does the examiner want us to do. I am really emotionally touched with what happened and I want ACCA to know.
does anyone else know what to do apart from the feedback?
June 10, 2016 at 12:36 pm #321975it’s all about money for acca it would seem – the more that fail the more resit and have to pay another £116 to have a go.
this paper couldn’t have been any worse. it was a shocker
June 10, 2016 at 1:02 pm #321978if everyone on here fills the acca feedback forum and complains
Surely they should take this into consideration with marking
What else are we suppose to do put our lives on hold, study and pay more fees ???
This exam was like no other p6 exam or any other exam i have sat and has literally knocked my confidence !!!
Really ashamed and dont know how to move forward/plan etc
June 10, 2016 at 1:27 pm #321988just completed the feedback form – i hope acca takes some of our thoughts into consideration!
June 10, 2016 at 1:35 pm #321989I think the Malta variant was a good paper. It wasn’t easy by all means but I feel it tested whatever needed to be tested and compared to previous papers it made much more sense. If I do not pass I feel it is my fault due to bad time management because questions were clear and the subjects covered very reasonable.
June 10, 2016 at 2:16 pm #322009Agreed impossible exam i have left feedback and think we should all make the Examining team aware of how impossible the exam was. I prepared so hard for this exam and like you went in with so much confidence, i have done difficult papers before and failed but never felt short changed because although they were difficult they were fair
This exam just wasnt fair, it didnt even give us a chance

June 10, 2016 at 2:27 pm #322016Can anyone tell me if they calculated the car benefit in Q3? i dont think that wes required as it wasnt a company car and he either purchased it outright or leased it himself ?
June 10, 2016 at 2:44 pm #322022If this forum was filled with over 10 pages of how silly and confusing this exams was it would definitely build a case for us to take further
Can you all pleass get your fellow class mates to come on here and vote
June 10, 2016 at 2:48 pm #322023I sat the Irish Variant not holding out too much hope of passing. Found it extremly tough and was caught for time at the end. One of the hardest exams ive sat.
June 10, 2016 at 3:05 pm #322028I did nearly all the questions in the kaplan exam kit and I still found it hard! Surely practice should make it easier, yet the examiner was very UNFAIR and completely blew me out of the water in the exam. It should be about testing our knowledge, not tricking us!
June 10, 2016 at 3:26 pm #322035Exactly!!!
I went over the kaplan kit, ACCA past exams
Mock exams, hybrid paper for last exam
You name it……..
June 10, 2016 at 4:12 pm #322052Extremely difficult! It felt like the questions were just so involved – like it was impossible to answer one part of it without having answered the previous.
When you’re short of time this makes it difficult to skip one part if you’re not sure and move on to the next.
I even wrote a note to my marker for the Bonus and Dividend part, saying that I’d run of of time to calculate the figure to use, but let’s work on the basis of £200K!
Praying for a miracle. 🙂

ACCA should see before examiner makes paper if they have any problems in family. If so, they should not be allowed to make paper for that attempt.
June 10, 2016 at 5:05 pm #322088Hi Guys,
I agree with most comments this was a horrible paper. I received an email from ACCA – it was a survey asking for feedback for the exams which they apparently will take into consideration before marking. On there it allows you to post comments on how the P6 paper was. If anyone wants to complain, you should complete that survey, maybe that might make ACCA be a bit lenient when it comes to marking our papers.
June 10, 2016 at 5:07 pm #322090I am astounded and not surprised that no individual has a comment about how reasonable this exam was. Every individual seems to say difficult. Above comment ”impossible to answer one part of it without having answered the previous” seems to be spot on. ”When you’re short of time this makes it difficult to skip one”. How do you manage to move on in this case.
The examiner who has written this has not given consideration to students who have worked through past exams papers and have wide knowldge across syllabus ( An important tip to succeed from my BPP tutors). However your knowledge is not even tested. I used BPP text book- excellent book to succeed. yet the questions were unambigous.
You can complain to ACCA through email and I think there is a way of informing through your ACCA account. Or ask ACCA personally.
Are there any students who liked this exam. Any others feel this exam was not fair.June 10, 2016 at 5:51 pm #322122I also agree with comments! A really unfair and tough paper, my first attempt at P6…and i get that! Horrendous!
3 months of hardwork, fee’s and no social life and its over just like that!
I got the feedback email from ACCA and i have submitted it with my thoughts.
I keep thinking of where i may have scraped some marks but my paper just got so messy going back and forth!
And now the Tax tables change for the September sitting! Great!June 10, 2016 at 6:02 pm #322124For anyone interested, the sample paper for March/June 2016 is now available on ACCA website
June 10, 2016 at 6:23 pm #322139My opinion – misleading questions.. hard to understand what they want us to do!
it was my 3rd attempt with P6 – 1st – 44 points, 2nd – 44 points again (in spite of 3 weeks studying doing past exam questions and then I saw weird things on the March exam) – what I mean weird is – only some small elements of syllabus might be tested in full, some of them you might have done many questions will not appear..
This paper was tricky, Question 1 requirement – fine but I started to calculate every year profit separately and adding dividends, interest to get the numbers and then I found the profit numbers and tax liabilities.. so I was stuck in the middle and I wasn’t even sure I was doing that in a correct way!
b) CGT – they complicated the things as usual, but generally the tips given in the question were not intuitive and I couldn’t find the real sense of that advise.. (like splitting gift, ok, but maybe it would be better not to suggest by the examinator the possible answer, but let us advise and mark it as correct if what we write makes sense!!!2) I felt totally lost with that question.. Yes, I think in one transaction there shouldn’t be a degrouping charge as it was the company selling the assets leaving the group, not the other way around
Bonus vs dividend, I just calculated the numbers with taxes but I didn’t know if I done that correctly3) I regret I didn’t pick that question, at least I should have picked some marks for small calculations, however I was not sure of that as it needed a lot of calculations and I was afraid of getting lost completely in the middle of that..
4) I chose that one, but I lost time, I didn’t know what the examiner wanted from me! The requirements were too general and if it was more specific I didn’t know what to do at some point to get these marks.. I wrote some things about losing the allowances if they have huge loss and so on but I couldn’t find more arguments they wanted from me..
5) I think it was the easiest one to do, quite fair question, at least I knew how to do one of them to complete..
However, I left the exam hall upset, I didn’t do as much as I wanted and it didn’t cover the whole syllabus.. I spent so much time on revision but I’m not sure if I succeed that time!
This exam may be so tricky even if you study a lot you might get completely weird question with the problem to solve found somewhere in the middle of syllabus! My friends and family don’t realize how it;s possible I cannot pass that exam that it’s not objective at all! You work so hard and get b…it after!!!!
June 10, 2016 at 6:27 pm #322143I couldn’t agree more!!!!
June 10, 2016 at 6:28 pm #322144Hi @dannyw1984 I wrote the same about DG.. that it was the company selling assets leaving the group
June 10, 2016 at 6:45 pm #322161I can’t believe I studied so hard and did every single question in the p&r kit.
I did well on mocks and was really ready. The exam was an epic fail, I couldn’t believe the profit and tax was given to us in q1 – surely that is where we score marks!
The wording was so confusing in all questions.
Core subjects were studied to the standard we were told to expect.
All in all, very sad this was supposed to be my last exam and I feel let down.
Even if I could have had an extra month to study or had the exam paper at home I wouldn’t have been able to understand the question.
Horrendous, not like any other p6 paper.
What can we do?

Did anyone else say that a degrouping charge wasn’t needed in question 2 as the Zorro building had been sold to A Ltd – which wasn’t the company being soldDG only occurs when the sale of the shares of a company happen within 6 years of receiving an asset – which doesn’t apply to company A.
Yeah, that is what I put aswell.
Although, there was no mention of Z Ltd being a trading company, I have just had a look at the March/June paper on the ACCA website, and it states in the opening paragraph:
“A Ltd and Z Ltd are both UK resident companies paying corporation tax at the main
rate.”Does that imply that Z Ltd is a trading company?
June 10, 2016 at 8:45 pm #322220This is shocking – if acca doesn’t want churn out a lot of graduates then they should set the entry requirements high
Rather than frustrating everyone
Some of us our jobs/promotions depend on these exams – so just setting silly questions like the ones we just sat – is annoying to say the least.
From my experience with acca – I will not be recommending any of my colleagues to pursue acca
I will recommend CIMA – period!!
What a waste of a lot of people’s time
June 10, 2016 at 9:03 pm #322229Well all i can say agter reading your experience is that i dont remember any $#!t i did so lets go to sleep 😀
