Hi
If hypothetically, someone’s spouse dies and they elect to take their NRB. Can they also remarry, and their subsequent late spouse also die before they did, and take their NRB too?
So effectively using two persons NRB, plus theirs on their death?
Don’t know if this ever happens in real life. Just wanted to know.

Firstly my apologies for not being able to respond until now. Secondly should I show this to any current and/or future husbands??
The maximum transfer from one or indeed more previous spouses is 100%, so if spouse dies using 40% of their nil rate band, the 60% unused transfers to surviving spouse. If she (inevitably) remarries and husband mark 2 sadly goes the same way using 40% of his nil rate band then the 60% transferred would be capped at 40% to give her the maximum 100% unused!
Hope this helps!September 25, 2015 at 4:00 pm #273566Ha! NRB’s aren’t really worth worrying about. If they had the money.. it would be transferred to the spouse as exempt!
So the maximum transferred can only be limited to the total of one additional NRB, no matter how many deceased spouses there may have been?
I didn’t think they would have a rule in place, unless some one has already tried this tactic!
Thanks for explaining!
