Best of luck to all who attempted P5 today!
To whoever who shall eventually get the highest marks for the P5 exam, like myself (75 marks in June 2012) and @alexkraev (81 marks in Dec 2012), hope you will contribute to OpenTuition forum and add on to the wisdom and advices imparted from us. 😀

It went horrible for me. My mind was exhausted after the first 50 marker which had 3 big topics inside. I just wasted my time in section B by decided which one to chose and made the stupid decision of choosing ABC/ABM and Transfer pricing. Became a victim to ACCA. Had never failed anything before.

What were the other topics
June 6, 2013 at 12:53 pm #129747The topics are obvious but the case is hard to read and understand .
Q1 balance score card/ divisional performance/ building blocks model and report format
Q2 ABC/ABM etc cannot remember
Q3 porter’s 5 forces model to evaluate performanceHope to pass, finger crossed!!

First question was ok, I chose the AbC question but the numbers started to confuse me then I moved on to the porters 5 forces model which on reading the requirement looked easy but the whole of the text related to a PESTEL analysis. I started to question do I know what 5 forces is?! Am I confused? I checked when I got out and I was correct in my 5 forces, so why did all the text lend itself to a Pest analysis?! I’m not sure I have passed now and very upset as on first glance it looked like an ok paper until the examiner tried to mislead me 🙁

disaster for me too
When i opened the paper , I thought pass easy !
Was completely brain dead after Q1 , and had a go at 5 forces with environmental performance measures ( i think that was right !) , couldnt get my head around the ABC question, was probably easy , my head is wrecked !
difference betweeen service and manufacturing was q1 a – S.H.I.P- 1. SimIilarity , Heterogeneity ,Intangibility and Perishability , (I think! )June 6, 2013 at 1:52 pm #129765Time is so tight.
I cannot answer 50% of marks in most question asked…and I can’t relate much valid points in using performance management knowledge to the question asked. I feel little weird about the way it asked, maybe because of the time pressure.
Terrible feeling ever. Hope marker can give mercy on me….
give me a pass…June 6, 2013 at 2:09 pm #129772Q1) S.H.I.P, Rewards, Critique of EPS, ROCE Capital employed and EPS, building blocks (standards and rewards), Balanced scorecard
Q2) ABC
Q3) Porters 5 forces and how external factors affect performance management and reporting
Q4 Transfer PricingExam was tough and time pressured! For Q3 Maybe it was how the question was asked but I got a bit stuck on linking how external factors affect performance management so wasted a lot of time here. Q1 was actually fair and I hope to get good marks here.
Q4 I felt had too little information so it was hard to work out the TP and the scenario itself I feel was quite poorly worded and structured.June 6, 2013 at 2:11 pm #129773<cite>@busbycat said:</cite>

I think that was the worst paper I have ever sat – nothing like the pilot paper in structure and agree the Porter’s Five forces question was really badly worded. Hopefully done enough in the part A question to make up for the disaster I had in part B.

i did question 1 complete … i think i knew everything in that except for why the standards need to be challanging??? i wrote to improve performance
motivation
gain competitive advantage
achieve goals and stuff i dunno wheather it was correct or not ….
i started of doing abc stuck in the middle left that …
started with porter 5 forces ,,,,
performance measures after analysis i wrote
time for the product to reach market for comp[etitors
customer rating and surveys for customers
gain of gov grants and regulatory body score for gov
substitues ,,,, ivestment in new products :p i dunno wheather it wa ok !! js did 1 part from last question ,,,, dunno wheather ill pass or notJune 6, 2013 at 2:33 pm #129796Exam looked easy at first glance but was taxing, you didn’t much energy to think after question 1. Did not finish last question on transfer pricing which was a bit confusing and needed a lot think to work it out. Lost out on probably 25 marks on this one. The paper was very time pressured. Depressed !

Help! I am going crazy. I attempted only 3 questions but marked all 4 in the booklet front page by mistake. The invigilator didn’t allow me to correct anything. Do you think it will be ok? Is this data for information purposes only or does it affect anything?
The exam itself was ok, the main difficulty I had was to link performance measurement metrics with Porter’s forces. A weird question, but hope that the most of 16 points was for naming the forces and relating them to the case.
June 6, 2013 at 2:44 pm #129801I found it baffling. First question on Balanced Score Card & Fitzgerald and Moon was OK, although I didn’t compare the regions nor do any additional maths. Not sure if that was required, but couldn’t see that it was.
Chose Porters 5 forces, “shoehorning” the model into something that I could write about. Bit of creative writing here. Then selected ABC costing, but was dead in the water. Went round and round the question, but couldn’t make any sense out of the information provided. Sounds like the TP was as bad if not worse! Hope I don’t have to sit this paper again, but think it is likely…:(June 6, 2013 at 2:51 pm #129805AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

I pretty much echo what everyone else is saying. Really tough paper and nowhere near enough time. After Section A I attempted the Porters 5 forces which I don’t think was easy as I thought at first glance. Linking it to ‘performance management’?
Wasn’t sure what to go for after that. Having had a scan off both questions I found them both vague but felt I had a slightly better understanding of ABC. Wasn’t sure how to calculate what they were asking in part a and only had about 20 mins for the whole question so ended up talking about ABC generally as I had no figures to relate it to!!
Disaster if I’m honest. Looks like I’ll be sitting again!

It was quite unexpected paper. In ABC after calculating the two methods I got nearly the same figures for both.
However, I forgot to bubble on the booklet front the questions I attempted, and the inviligator just screcthed the paper from my hand 🙁 Do you think they will not correct the whole paper? Should I write to ACCA?
June 6, 2013 at 2:52 pm #129807Did the porters 5 forces question first, was easy to relate to porter itself, but hard to late it to performance management, i realised later that i misallocated my time and spent 40mins doing the 16mark question *facepalm*
Then went for question1. The scenario was fairly easy to understand, but the requirements were really confusing, atleast for me, however managed to throw all my knowledge on the paper, some measures i wrote were really lame. Realised iam over time on this one aswel, moved to do the last question
Made a bad choice of choosing transfer pricing, could have written more on abc i guess, but whichever i would have choosen, i had like 5 mins to write, and thus managed to write only 5 lines 🙁
Iam disappointed, had the knowledge, but couldnt do much with my time 🙁

I did the same, forgot to mark which questions I did due to time pressure!!
Anyone know what happens in these circumstances?

Question 3……. What!!! How do we link 5 forces to performance management in the context they wanted? I did usual P3 way is threat of suppliers, high as rare materials required and as a performance measure said to use sensitivity analysis for price changes? Anyone else do something similar or have I messed it up (more)
