There is no problem in using these companies as they are both food producers

@moomi – the main purpose of any model (business analysis) is that it should help guide the financial analysis as genuine strengths and opportunities will influence strategies and management decisions, which in turn affect performance. A threat may also influence these but it’s impact on financial performance will usually be less obvious. If you are repeating threats it is therefore a minor detail.

The markers look for evidence that the student has used information gleaned from the models when explaining the underlying factors for what has driven performance. It therefore makes sense to do a good application of the models to understand strategic direction before attempting the financial analysis

Trehena could please explain this using a small example .
Secondly is it important to pick points only from these models to explain financial performance ?
Lastly, kindly clarify whether a single point can be used in two models and financial analysis as well?

    1. Please read my article on evaluation on our homepage http://www.opentuition.com/obu as there are examples in that.

    2. No the points can come from any research however the linkage between SWOT and PEST factors and financial performance are part of what happens in the real world of business as they influence strategic direction and decisions.

    3. Read my comments in (2) – the models and financial analysis are inter-related so points will often be relevant in both places

    Hello @Trephena

Please guide on my above query regarding resubmission.

In my examiner’s feedback, I have passed Self Reflection however, I was marked as fail in communication skills. The examiner’s feedback on this was “Reasons for fail and advice for improvement:
Your PowerPoint presentation is not of a pass standard. It is too long; 23 some quite detailed slides could not be delivered in the required 15 minutes. Secondly, the graphical presentation does not show the comparator company and hence is less useful. The use of different graph styles is also confusing for the audience.”

Please advise whether I have to submit just the presentation or SLS as well?

You will probably find that you have to submit a file for the statement as you technically have not cleared this part but as it was passed you do not need to re-write it unless you change your topic.

With the Presentation comply with the feedback

If you have enough words to explain each items SUFFICIENTLY then it is enough! Or else 3-5 items is enough for each head.

I had 7 and I passed, so it must be, but make sure it is industry related.

Try to find food related KPIs, it will give higher grade. You can calculate your own KPIs.
As Dairy is food manufacturer, if you can get information on their Machine effectiveness it will be great. You can calculate reject ratio ( waste produced by machines – as waste will reduce profits). Similarly rate of machine production, slow will harm sales, while too fast will decrease quality. Similar IDLE time of machine can be KPI.

It can be hard to find these statistics, but deep search can reveal good information.

Yes, some link between Financial analysis and Business analysis is important.

For KPIs that can’t be expressed as ratio, use it to explain other normal ratios. For example Idle time can be used to explain fall/increase in operating profit ratio. I used 2 KPIs to explain ordinary ratios in my research.

    I got B.

For linkage, if machine is IDLE for long periods then no production will take place so no sales and no profit.

For such information you have to dig and search very much on internet. It’s not only IDLE time, you can include other such stuff if you get.

    I used 4,

And for that I have to search for information relating to suppose idle time on the net.like whether the company’s machinery was idle or not and it does not necessarily have to be quantitative form..only info..like citing that the company’s machinery was idle or this this quantity was rejected (rejection ratio)
