Damn, I didn’t expect TOWS. Is so similar to SWOT and easy to confuse.
June 9, 2014 at 8:29 pm #175541The exam looked fairly difficult to me with the very inclusion of TOWS matrix, i was shocked to see it at first. I hope i earn most of marks available in Q1 part a. In conclusion of report under part C i used BCG and explained that company needs to be patient if it injects cash as the company is Problem child, Q3 went good and in Q4 Npv stand alone should not have been calculated, there were quite a few problem with NPV calculation and i suggested other methods of investment appraisal should be used as well along with NPV and in part b I just knew about benefits realisation and other two i just used a bit of hinches.
June 9, 2014 at 8:30 pm #175542How do look at the replies. Please answer through new comment!
June 9, 2014 at 8:30 pm #175543the time allocated for P papers is horrible,,,, 4 hours should be given….. lets do a petition xD
June 9, 2014 at 8:36 pm #175544Anybody please can you put a NEW COMMENT on how to see replies thanks
June 9, 2014 at 8:38 pm #175545There’s no way other then clicking on subscribe i guess which is just on bottom of page number on top of page and then maybe it will give notifications in your profile.
June 9, 2014 at 8:48 pm #175548what was the examiner looking for in question 4. was it calculations or critical points with relation to NPV. Most figures had the same problem. Uncertainty about how accurate they were? was this the right approach or was I totally off the mark.
June 9, 2014 at 8:52 pm #175549Yes question 4 ) I discussed nob and pv of payback period plus rate of return! Is this correct? Please don’t reply, start a new comment as I can’t see replies
June 9, 2014 at 8:56 pm #175551I argued that disruption costs aren’t measurable moreover i went on to say that all costs of project should be realized in year 0 rather then dividing them into later years moreover some benefits would be difficult to quantify and i argued that NPV should have been calculated along with IRR and Payback period.

The paper was ok really.the only BUT was the time pressure.was unable to properly structure my q1a because of d too many points to pick from.2a was challenging a bit n not much said on d b prt.tried my hands on all d requirements n I hope n pray my fingers would have hurt for nothing.pray I never have to come back
June 9, 2014 at 9:12 pm #175556TOWS was a horror, normally ANSOFF is used for options, i just failed to answer 1(c) at all. so wasted 15 minutes just thinking about it and then decided to skip and went for Q3 which seemed fair and not too difficult provided you know a decent process, however Q2 (seemed easy) but when attempted i was not really able to answer it somehow maybe due to pressure, but i started writing about things that impact pricing, although just after the exam was over i realized that skimming was the right answer due to all the quality stated in the scenario. ARGH.. difficult paper..
Why is P3 getting so general knowledge paper, it’s like studying won’t help at all because models are nearly non-existent in these attempts
June 9, 2014 at 9:29 pm #175570Exam could have been much worse in my opinion. I had many points for SWOT so hopefully picked up good marks here, the part on the change kaleidoscope was ok, VERY generous of the examiner to give us the features (I had these memorised so was a little disappointed about that. The examiner giving us these features just goes to show that P3 is all about application to the scenario rather than textbook knowledge.
I’m a little surprised that so many people struggled with TOWS – the model is very easy to understand and also easy to apply. It’s in fact very common sense. “Using strengths to seize opportunities” for example is very obvious.
I spent too long on Q1 so the rest of the paper was a bit rushed. I’m hoping to have smashed Q1, then picked up enough marks on Q2 and Q4 to see me over the line. Good luck to all, a very long two months ahead!June 9, 2014 at 9:32 pm #175572I disagree for 2a to use skimming.
he had small market share and he was ready to bear losses for next years.
so penetration I would say.June 9, 2014 at 10:08 pm #175575I hate p3 this is my 5th attempt & have to resit in dec again. Any tips wud be much appreciated as this is the only paper left with me.

I made a big blunder i answered all questions. How will i get marked?
Got stuck on question after SWOT and did Q1 after i had already done 4
and 3.June 9, 2014 at 10:12 pm #175577Oh no after reading all of these comments I have realised that I totally misunderstood Q2 part a, I talked about the strategy clock and that Marco could adopt a differentiation strategy. Hoping that I get some marks from this as I did talk about setting a premium price!

Was an okay paper. I went for Q2 & Q4.
Q1 I used PESTEL and parts of Porters 5 forces to address threats. Part b was a bit of guess work so skimmed over this. Part c I also had a stab that you had to turn threats into opportunities and weaknesses into strengths as it was part of a recomendation of a report. I tried to get the 4 professional marks by having a Management Summary, titles, report body and recommendation/conclusion.
Q2 I got to a sell price of £850 so after 10% discount was taken off it would still make a modest profit which was a requirement.
I only had 30 mins to complete Q4. Noted if benefits/costs were measurable, observable or quantifiable, questioned why initial cost of software was spread across 2 years with no mention of this in the text. Recalculated NPV which gave a negative so not to proceed with the project.
Plenty of waffling in between too!
Fingers crossed!
June 10, 2014 at 12:10 am #175586Did anyone attempted the 3-rd question? In part b I used the Harmmon process change matrix….

Attempted exam after a 4 year lul. Gave it all that I had. Forgot how terrible exam pressure can be. Ran out of time but still hoping for the best.
June 10, 2014 at 6:50 am #175605@ebtuci2903 i don’t think so harmon was applicable in Q3(b) it asked for advantages of over the counter software against bespoke?
June 10, 2014 at 7:33 am #175609In question 3 part b we had to acknowledge advantages of package over Bespoke and relate to scenario, advantages are reliable, updateable, timely, expertise and quick.

Question 3 was straightforward. Question 1 had too many things to do and you could over run time just doing the SWOT analysis. Although I attempted Q 2,I hadnt prepared very well for it.
