I don’t know why people were using SFA for 1b. SFA is only useful for analysing the actual strategies, the question was asking for what types of strategies to use to improve its position. SFA is useless for this.
Did anyone else feel like it was one big reading comprehension exam?

I believe SFA can be used to assess new strategies… actual strategies are already suitable, acceptable, feasible, because if they weren`t they wouldn`t be current strategies, right?

@ lee1010
yep we will be looking forward for the best. my opinion is that since this is an international exam. wordings of the question has to be very clear as the English is not the first language of many students who is taking this exam. I am sure examiner will look in to this matter and he will identify that there is a small issue in the question it self.
Thnx……..

what do you think regarding 1b if using the 6i’s and 7p’s in order for the company to adopt sa strategy where it focus on online sales therefore emarketing is involved and obvoiusly marketing mix is effected?

Unfortuntely i will resit. Out of time running only 75 marks.
But Q1b i found it clear. Requesting strategic options which for me is either Ansof or generic strategies and justifying them by using S(making use of TOWS identified in the scenario) A(Meadolows justification)F(resources).
Good luck for those that are close to pass, for the rest we will talk in December.
For now have a good summer.June 19, 2012 at 9:03 pm #101271AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

This, I feel, was a fair paper, although without the more popular models – PESTEL, Porter’s Diamond, 5 forces …….
Some learning points that would help everyone in future exams:
1) It is good to know the models. But they only help you to generate ideas. Common sense will take you a long way in this paper, and related ones.
2) Don’t neglect the TECHNICAL ARTICLES. They usually contain materials you won’t find in the approved study packs.
Examples in this paper- Question 1c (12 marks), Question 3b (12 marks)
24 marks bonus, if you read them that is!
Wish everyone success come August.June 19, 2012 at 9:10 pm #101272Yes the paper was fair, it was my first attempt but my approach was completely wrong, i ran out of time MANAMENT WAS very poor. I dont think i made it. as i did not complete all my questions.
June 19, 2012 at 9:45 pm #101273I was a bit confused about Q2 i about the CEO choosing the software. Was it asking why the software package wasn’t a good fit for this organisation?
June 20, 2012 at 11:23 am #101274The paper was fair.
For the first time i was pressured for time. Spent too much time on question 1a. In the end walked out of the exam room with answers in my head.June 20, 2012 at 2:05 pm #101275AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

For Q1(b) you can use any model that you think fits the appropriate context within the question. I decided to look at its external and internal position and analysed this using McKinsey 7S,Porters 5 forces and the strategy Clock to determine in what direction they should focus, what they need to bring to the market and how they could compete, expand or differentiate within the market.

June 21, 2012 at 3:19 pm #101279Hi guys,
I might have been way off the mark here, but for Q1b I also discussed a couple of strategies and then use SAF. It asked for a framework, so I thought SAF was acceptable, as Ansoff is a model, may be I’m wrong. I did however mention elements of Ansoff’s model -namely diversification, I also suggested exporting as a means of market development, little outlay fees , the business was cash strapped so would be good option/
June 21, 2012 at 3:21 pm #101280Additionally. I cant remember but I vaguely remember seeing in the question the brothers, for ethical reasons, would not want to move production abroad so that was not an option as far I was concerned…….????

EXAM WAS GENERALLY OK. HOWEVER, LOTS OF TIME WAS NEEDED TO READ, SINCE ALL THE QT WERE RELATIVELY LONG.
