I have failed twice too now, it gets very disheartening……….. P2 seems to be my stumbling block 🙁
February 16, 2012 at 6:15 pm #87372It really is a tough exam! ( as you have found out! ) I understand that you feel disheartened but don’t give up! There is no substitute for going through those past exam questions, time and time and time again. Get used to Graham Holt’s style, get used to his “favourite” topics, get used to identifying where the “easy” marks are. Practice over and over. And when you’ve done that often enough, then do it again. try attempting the questions under exam conditions. Time yourself – and don’t forget to try the written parts! There are loads of easy marks in those written parts and those are the parts which are most commonly missed by the “less than well-prepared” student.
Ok, you’re down just now. So, pick yourselves up, dust yourselves down, and start right over again.

Hi Mike, thanks for your advice. In my case its been over-disheartening (if there is any word like that), i’d failed this P2 paper 4 times with marks between 42 to 44. i can almost bet my life that i would pass the last diet, no got 44 marks.
I use the Kaplan and opentuition notes, my greatest problem now is that i am too familar to the notes that i can almost recite word for word from begining to end. No motivation to want to look at any of the notes, since the release of the result i’ve daily doubted my ability and considered quiting.
March 1, 2012 at 5:36 pm #87374Then it’s question practice time. An earlier post in this string recommends constant and frequent repetition – there’s no substitute!
But I continually get the impression (certainly in live sessions with my real students) that the wordy bits are not as exciting / stimulating / interesting as the numbers bits.
Check out recent exams! There’s normally around 65% of the P2 exams in writing and therefore only 35% numbers. Logically, that would suggest that you should be spending around two thirds of your revision time practicing the wordy questions / answers.
I’m prepared to bet that you don’t! 🙂
Over and over again. Just plan, don’t write out in full. A 20 mark written question – spend 10 minutes planning bullet points. Then check out how many of your bullets match markable points from the suggested printed solution.
A 25 marker = 12.5 minutes planning. A 30 marker = 15 minutes planning etc
Stick to this – don’t pack in planning after say 6 minutes for a 20 marker – you need to be aiming for 20 separate points and that deserves 10 minutes of your concentrated thinking time.
Also plan your revision timetable. Build in breaks, evenings off, television watching, exercise, a personal life. In short, be realistic in your scheduling. Don’t plan to overstretch ( but don’t be too gentle on yourself! ) You’ve got 110 days from today ( March 1 ) and you can see how many questions there are in the revision kits. I suggest you aim to plan / work probably 50 marks worth of written question or work through properly 35 marks worth of numbers question –
EACH AND EVERY EVENING ( maybe take, say, Saturday evening off, but make up for it by doing double the amount on Sunday.Remember, it IS doable and, when it’s out of the way then …..IT’S GONE FOREVER!
March 2, 2012 at 12:35 pm #87375hi. i did p2 in dec 2011 and have used BPP. unfortunately i failed with 43 marks. i wish to know if i can still use the BPP 2011 edition. Is there any major changes? Thank you
March 2, 2012 at 5:36 pm #873772011 should be substantially ok. You need to get up to speed with the new IFRSs 10 to 13. I can’t think of anything else to bring 2011 up to date.
