Hi every one,
I have heard that P1 and P3 are going to merge in Dec 2016. My question is that:
1. Is this true??
2. If yes, whether it will be applicable in Dec 2016( i.e there will be no P1 or P3 but another paper comprising of these two). Can anyone please help me on the above before I choose any professional papers to go ahead with in Jan 2016.
Thanks in advance

December 14, 2015 at 9:48 pm #291807I’m sick of Acca dumbing down this qualification
This qualification will be worthless in a few years

What makes you think ACCA are dumbing down the qualification?
You are familiar with the pass rates on the ACCA exams?December 15, 2015 at 6:58 pm #291916Acca are doing this and moving to multiple choice question to cut costs. In doing so exams become easier to pass. I honestly believe that as I have taken a few f papers under the old way and new way. Way easier. Just look at the pass rate of f4.
Ultimately though it’s about perception. Once Employers know there is 1 less exam and more multiple choice questions on the others they will value the qualification less.December 15, 2015 at 7:12 pm #291917If this occurs to be true then it would mean that some people after exemptions F1-F9 would only have to pass 4 exams?

So with the multiple choice question you MUST be 100% correct in your answer. no sympathy marks given. If you are 50% correct in a non multi-choice exam you will pass. If you are 50% correct in a multi choice exam you fail. Exams being easier is down to the questions, not the question scheme. Look at the F5 paper for example. Muti choice questions cover EVERYTHING. More is covered compared to what a 5 question exam may cover. So the student needs to have more coverage. This is a blessing and a curse. If employers value the ACCA less, then that is their issue.
ACCA is becoming the number 1 choice in a lot of countries and their global presence is getting more prominent.December 23, 2015 at 11:44 am #292636Well from what i have seen and heard, i dont believe by acca moving to multiple choice in the F papers they have made it ‘easier’, the questions are really tough!!
I dont think they will merge the two papers? what will it be replaced with?
February 6, 2016 at 3:37 pm #299504it will be merge on sept 2017 and the paper will be 4 hours paper. eventhough u already pass 1 paper u need to take it again sept 2017 onwards. acca is restructuring their courses every 8-10 years. last time introduce the profesional accountant p1 paper on 2007 iinm.
February 6, 2016 at 4:46 pm #299523who told you bout P1 and P3 merging?
I can’t find anything about it on the ACCA website.February 7, 2016 at 1:18 pm #299597yes.. i also heard this news that very soon P1 will merge with P3 & in place of P1 ACCA students will have to attempt an Economics paper.
February 9, 2016 at 5:47 pm #299845Is it really true that the 2 subjects will merge? Can someone share a link?
February 15, 2016 at 2:26 am #300460one more point, high passing rate doesn’t mean that ACCA loosing its value if passing still requires sufficient knowledge, and it still does. (for sure you cannot pass by only relying on common sense)
F4 is not a good example anyways, because the examiner’s approach also has changed (fortunately) not just the exam format. Now for example it is not required to memorize case names and other (for accountants) useless things. The questions are about practical knowledge, which obviously results in higher passing rate. I don’t see the problem with this at all.

If this is to be true, I do hope ACCA is at least introducing a new paper to top up the original 14 ones, which are already fewer than ACA by 1 and CIMA by 2. Do the management at the ACCA think this will look good on ACCA in UK and the rest of the world if they cut 1 paper less? They need to preserve the quality (and no less importantly the perception per se) of the qualification.
September 6, 2016 at 12:10 pm #338232I’ve just spoke with an ACCA consultant over the phone and he confirmed that P1 and P3 are not merging, neither in 2017.
