Can we assume a figure by ourselves without any calculation and make a discussion based on that figure. For instance, under forex risk question, hedging methods futures and option asked. Then I just calculate on futures and due to time constraint or inability to calculate, I assume a number for option saying ‘lets assume’. Then I make a discussion based on that assumed number within the scenario. So can I still earn marks for discussion ? Does own figure rule apply in this case too?
Yes – the own figure rule does apply. Just make sure that you make it very obvious that you are ‘inventing’ a figure so that the marker doesn’t waste time trying to discover where it came from.
