What is the ‘organisational assumption in culture?’ Where have you come across that term?

Charles Handy’s cultural web describes various influences on corporate culture. One of them is “organisational assumptions or paradigm”. Can you please explain what it is and bringing out some example.

    thank you very much.

OK. Organisational assumptions or paradigm are the deep down assumptions about what the organisation is for. For example:

1 People in a profit seeking organisation that uses cost leadership assume what it has to do is to make profits by shaving costs and giving customers the minimum possible.

2 People in a profit seeking organisation that uses differentiation will have an underlying belief in giving excelent service and making innovative goods.

3 Employees of a public hospital will have the underlying belief that all must be treated and that money should not enter into decision-making.

4 The family of a family company may believe that the entire purpose of the organisation is to provide for future generations. The decisions there are likely to be less risky and more long term that example (1) above.
