Hi,
What score ranges are considered safe for a plagiarism check online?
Thanks
There is no specific score as I tried to explain in the interview on the OpenTuition homepage. It is not just the percentage score but what has been flagged up. Direct citations and references will increase the score. However with a topic like Topic 17! a large part of the score could be citations of the UK CG Code and the company’s corporate governance report where direct citation is justified and 35 – 50% might therefore be acceptable. 35% for Topic 8 would probably not be acceptable though as there is little reason to copy direct quotes (and similarly for most other topics) although Topics 3 and 12 would probably require more direct quotations and fall into the same similar category as T17
what is the best way to use them then? what would be the percentage for topic 19?
No more than about 15% to 20% would be reasonable provided this is made up of small passages of lots of multi-coloured text. However if there are long passages of text of one colour then that is not good and if the matches are above 30% then the repot might be failed for bad academic practice as about a third of it is not original work. Where such matches are to another student’ s work it could become an academic conduct case as I implies deliberate copying or collusion.
