Last time in RAP the marker give me F in inforamtion gatering and refrencing and pass in evaluation , analysis and conclusion but hae says you need to put more reason in ratio and link the buisness anlaysis to financial analysis. now i change the RAP accoording to marker but i need to clarify that weather marker will fail or not in passed parts
i also need some help in resubmission statement if someone help me to give me the sample of resubmission statement.i would be very thankful in advance.April 26, 2014 at 4:37 pm #166402Provided you are using the same topic and company, you cannot be failed for parts previously passed. However if you change them then you can be failed.
As for the Resubmission statement: the purpose of the resubmission statement is to make YOU reflect on what went wrong and to make you focus on what you need to do to overcome the weaknesses that have been identified. There is not really much point in seeing someone else’s statement – as what a student writes for it should relate to those particular areas they failed and why they failed.
So you need to take the marker feedback and then draft a list of the points they made one by one. Go through each of these individually and think how you can make improvements to rectify the weaknesses that the marker identified then state explicitly what you have done in your new submission that addresses these errors and deficiencies. As an example if a student failed on Information Gathering and Referencing, depending on exactly what the marker feedback said on the Resubmission statement they might write “I failed Information Gathering and Referencing as the marker identified that I had not referenced consistently throughout and not used the Harvard system. I have re-read the Guidelines on referencing thoroughly and made sure that my referencing in the text and my Reference list are now Harvard compliant. I have also gone through my whole RAP and ensured that it is fully referenced as I now appreciate the importance of referencing all of my work”
Remember the idea of the statement is to give a YOU a check list to work from to help you pass your next submission. It is not intended to be a routine extra task just for the sake of it – so the more thought you put into it, the more you are likely to recognise why you went wrong last time and what needs to be done to be successful this time round. I am not aware that the Resubmission statement itself would be ‘marked’ but a poor statement probably would indicate that a student hadn’t bothered to focus on the real reasons they failed the last time and made the necessary corrections.
Hope that helps 🙂
May 1, 2014 at 8:19 pm #167046@anwais9 Sounds odd that the marker passed you on Evaluation but then made those comments…. Provided you do the same topic & company, once you have passed a section you cannot subsequently be failed on it. So you can chill a little as Evaluation is in my opinion the hardest section to pass. What you now have to do is use a broader range of sources (not just the annual reports) to back up you findings and reference them properly.
May 3, 2014 at 2:11 pm #167224@ trephena thanks for giving me such a superb guidance on resubmision statement .
furthermore i want to confirm that it is mandatory to write the minimum 500word. i have write nearly 300 words in resubmision statement.weather the submsision statement effectS the passing of my RAP or not.May 3, 2014 at 5:00 pm #167266@awais9 – 500 words I think is a guide (they don’t really expect it to take more than 500). If you have covered all your points and outlined your corrections well in 300 words that should be fine (better 300 words that deal with the issues than 500 that are vague!).
May 4, 2014 at 3:20 pm #167395can you please elaborate what to write in re-submission statement and does any one fails in re-submission statement,
May 5, 2014 at 12:24 pm #167493@Charles I really do not know what you want me to elaborate on as I have explained the purpose of the resubmission statement, said how to approach it and given an example of the type of thing you should write in my answer above to awais8.
I would advise students at least to start the Resubmission statement as the FIRST (not the last) task that they do BEFORE they do their resubmission – otherwise they are missing the point of it! In my opinion it is meant to help them concentrate upfront on what they did wrong so they are focused on making the corrections needed. It is not supposed to be just another form to fill in at the very end!!!! 🙁
It should start with outlining the marker feedback, followed by a serious period of reflection on how to address the issues failed. Only THEN would I advise starting to rewrite the resubmission. Finally the statement should be revisited after the RAP /SLS has been rewritten to confirm that all the problems have been resolved and comments that show how ( and possibly why, as that confirms you have understood the relevance of the feedback points)
No I don’t think you can be failed on a poor resubmission statement but if the marker feedback has not been effectively dealt with in the actual resubmission, then another fail is probably the likely outcome.
May 13, 2014 at 9:57 am #168632@trephena. I have been following your advice here and in other OBU postings, and I wish to say thanks to you, they have been of so much help to me. Bless u
May 13, 2014 at 10:12 am #168634@fausthel I am glad that you have found them useful 😀
I appreciate how difficult it is for students doing the RAP as not all of them always have good mentors and have access to the best advice (or the money to procure these). The OBU info Pack is useful but it is not quite the same as an interactive forum.
I have been involved in advising students on the RAP far, far longer than most other mentors and therefore when I found this Forum I felt it would be an excellent means of ‘giving something back’ to the community as I have benefitted in the past from other people’s help. So please post any queries and I and other contributors will try to respond. 🙂
May 20, 2014 at 8:19 pm #169726@trephena. Could please help me out here. Am finalizing my re-submission. The comment passed by the moderator for my SLS were: Self reflection pass, Communication skills (including presentation) failed. Reasons: please add some more slides with the results of your analysis. Now, having reworked on my presentation, would you advise that I revise my SLS, and if so, which area of the 4 main questions? Do I have to indicate in the SLS that I failed and have to revisit my project mentor?.
Urgent response and thanks in advanceMay 21, 2014 at 12:03 am #169748Good news for the SLS – you passed it so you do not need to do anything further about it. You don’t need to load the file and the pass from last time will be carried forward. I have given advice on the Presentation in other posts and your marker told you what was wrong so concentrate on correcting that. I think your mentor is supposed to sign off your RAP again and you should give the Presentation again to them – unfortunately I don’t have access to the Info PacK and resubmission guide at the moment but it will tell you in there, so please consult the documents to check 🙂
