What are your thoughts about the newly partnership with university of London , from cost benefit analysis and what are the alternative courses for career development if you doesn’t recommend going for Msc ?
October 10, 2015 at 11:24 am #275740I’m applyied to master in finance and I got a conditional offer. They want my obu transcripts and evidence that I am close to graduating. But I haven’t submitted the thesis yet and going to do it this November. Assuming that I pass the thesis and get awarded the obu degree before June, my master program will start in August next year. But now I have to give them transcripts that show that I’m in final year or close to graduating. They want it before February. How do I do that? Does obu support you with that? Do they give you provisional transcript even though I’m only their “student” via acca? Does the transcript show failed attempts and when I passed the exams?? Thanks in advance!!
October 10, 2015 at 1:42 pm #275767@Procrastinatedvalor – you will have to negotiate this with the tutors at the uni providing the masters. Talk to / email them – these regs are seldom set in concrete – they probably need you as much as you need them so they are not usually going to want you to take your custom elsewhere (I myself did not have an Hons. Degree though I probably had the equivalent but was readily accepted on an MSc course – if they want you they will bend the rules and occasionally you can even get in with 3rd class honours if they think you are right for the course)
ACCA exams contribute most of the input for your degree. I think it may tell you somewhere in the Info Pack how many points or credits you get from these and the RAP. You should be able to work out exactly what you currently have and ACCA should be able to corroborate this and you will also be able to work out what RAP grade is required (normally a 2.1 for a Masters is initially stated). I’m afraid you won’t be able to get anything from OBU until the results are released in March as until then they are provisional. That is their system as ACCA has to clear them too.
Transcripts are sent out promptly after then but I have no idea what they contain – some other student would have to comment on that..
October 14, 2015 at 9:03 pm #276252@Mansour – in a nutshell: it is worth developing your career but it depends on what direction you see yourself going in e.g. if you enjoy tax better to go for the Institute of Taxation qualification. It’s a competitive world out there so you need to have as many skills and qualifications to stay ahead of the pack.
Also lots of different courses out there so “shop around” there may be something that “grabs” you more (feed the key words “distance learning” MSc or MBA, finance / accounting / business and UK University into a search engine for example and note down a few ideas). University of London is a very reputable uni but a new course so there will probably be a few teething problems. OBU offers an MBA and I think they may be planning to introduce a more specialist Accounting masters so you could explore that angle too. Spend time establishing what’s right and suits you.
I have written a long answer to Jahnvi asking about distance learning Masters courses (OBU degree in Canada) and a similar question to yours was asked a few months back on “Oxford Brookes degree: graduation and grading” by Raveen so suggest that you read those for some related comments as I can’t repeat everything!
